It’s giving me a fuck ton of anxiety because I literally have only been able to stay alive in my current prolonged struggle because of c/mutual_aid, really.

With the medicaid cuts today, I may be in the same boat soon. I’m disabled with over a ten-year gap in my work history with no college degree. Nobody is going to hire me and I especially wouldn’t get accommodations (I know because I’ve looked). Guess I’ll just not eat food or something? IDK. Can’t rely on these “”““leftists””" that’s for sure.

Seeing you go off in this thread really was the kind of relief I needed right now. I am having major panic attacks right now due to me grappling with the brutal reality of the injustice that could happen to me if some of these proposed changes (that were clearly thought of on a whim—pulled straight from the ass) actually went through. Jesus fucking Christ, I already hate bleach demons enough as is, but the way any struggle session seems to go on Hexbear makes me realize that I still have potential to hate them more.

I really find the performativity glaring. “Leftists” on this site (and all across the internet really) will say shit like, “It’s so fucked up that capitalism literally kills people for not being profitable!” and “It’s a shame that Black transfems have disporportionately high rates of homelessness and unemployment alongside a high likelihood of being victims of hate crimes!”

But like with many other things, when an issue starts to be less of an abstract horror that they can post outrage about and is actually something they’d have to face the reality of, even not as the direct victims and even if just through words on a screen, white and/or privileged leftists would rather shame people for their material conditions leaving them hopeless and desperate in a society that sees them as a disposable machines at best.

People are concerned about some potential scams on this comm, so their solutions are to literally suggest things that will put marginalized people at risk of potentially the worst shit they could have to put up with? That makes no fucking sense to me, especially since c/mutual_aid has always been about donating at your own discretion. It’s not like Hexbear mods are lining people up, calculating their wages, and forcing them to donate to posts where the OP indicates desperate need.

It makes me doubt their conviction. When the Red Terror starts, are these so-called “leftists” going to choke at pulling a trigger? If they get captured, are they going to snitch on people who trusted them? If they’re so easily scratched at anonymous forum posts, they’ll crack under pressure when it comes time to carry out actual revolution.

Their leftism is entirely performative. It’s merely an aesthetic to them seperate from liberalism and fascism. They’re anarkiddies with a veneer of literacy. Everything is hypothetical, nothing has actual consequences.

It’s not like Hexbear mods are lining people up, calculating their wages, and forcing them to donate to posts where the OP indicates desperate need.

        • I saw you post in that thread and I just want to back you up. I think this is a huge mistake by the mods to correct the problem of like one or two people scamming hexbear. But the comments, a lot of them read like they’re being forced to donate at gunpoint or something and thus they’re cheerleading on a whole slew of draconian countermeasures to appease a a handful of bougie dickheads who’re mad a user spent some money on drugs. It’s literally a case of fixing a problem that wasn’t broken and all of this might have been spurred on by bad actors in the first place trying to wreck the site because so many people use the mutual aid comm.

I don’t really understand what the purpose of that thread is supposed to be. Didn’t this whole song and dance happen early on when we started having donation threads for Palestinians? Like, of course there’s always a chance there’s going to be scammers, but it just seems so fucked up for a leftist platform to punish people who legitimately need the help.

Its started because some people started to complain about scammers in the MA comm so the mod team made the discussion post so people gave their thoughts about the comm

Thankfully it seems like its going to stay mostly the same but its wild how some people wanted the mods to mean test people about if they needed the aid

I started reading a bit more and while its good to see that that was the decision they came to after the input, it still sucks that they ever entertained the demands of those wanting for there to be means tests for our most vulnerable comrades.

Many people here are covertly reactionary. It’s just that, in some cases, the “c” in “covertly” goes silent. This is one of those cases.
