Meanwhile every time Masahiro Sakurai makes a game he dedicates 5 minutes in a Nintendo Direct just for explaining the features in his option menu. Interesting to think about

Sakurai’s games have some of the juiciest and most functional damn menus in the business. I was really impressed by seeing the granularity of some of the options in the most recent Kirby Air Ride Direct.

But what’s this about Mario Kart World not having an options menu? Like…can you not adjust anything? Audio balance, controls, none of that stuff?

You can adjust controls to turn on things like auto accelerate or motion controls, turn off the mini map, and some 3rd setting that adjusts the camera in a way that is not described in the menu and has no noticeable effect on gameplay

There are no audio or visual settings or anything further than that

He definitely makes creative decisions that I disagree with, but no one can say that Sakurai doesn’t put careful thought into making games that a wide audience is able to have fun with. That huge overlay (for motion sickness?) was really interesting, and one of the first times that I’ve seen extra art assets put into being able to customize something that only exists as an accessibility feature.
