On Minnesota, Trump criticises the “mass import” of foreign cultures, citing Somalia. He then hits out at “fake congressperson” Ilhan Omar, criticising her for “telling us how to run America”
I mean I do understand that this is a reference to the Nazis, but seems sort of weird given that German is a European language and many of them do speak German even with the Americans.
I think that Trump is using a taunt he surely learned when he was young. He spoke without any regard that ~60 years or so have passed and he’s on an entirely different continent.
Surely projection, since his father grew up speaking German. The “Drumpf” liberal meme is silly but it is worth noting that Trump is very much a second generation immigrant. I am sure some of his cartoonish American chauvinism is due to being raised in a household headed by an embarrassed German immigrant.
How could I overlook that basic thing? For Trump shame and embarrassment - on his terms of course - are fundamental for his POV and in how he acts.
And virtually all Europeans are learning English because of cultural imperialism and US hegemony lmao
