Make it compatible with more fully open OSs. I would own a Unihertz Titan already if they had done the same. Dream hardware, nightmare lockin.

A bit worried about the MediaTek processor (because of Custom ROM support) but 5 Major Android upgrades sounds pretty decent.

The screen is smaller and it has some kind of custom launcher that presents all your message notifications up front to discourage you from digging deeper into the phone. In other words, it adds a couple of layers of friction out of the box. For some it might be enough, others will need more, many don’t care about that particular aspect at all.

“dumb” phones are trendy so they lean into it. It’s marketing. This phone should be less convenient to doomscroll say, TikTok on.

Personally that’s not why I’m interested

I have some ideas about this, I’ve been rocking a moto RAZR with a clicks keyboard for a few months. I do maybe 80-90% of my phone time on the external screen which does great for music/audiobook selection, emails and Feeder/Summit, but apps that capitalize on longscreen scrolling like Instagram, tiktok, Facebook are a terrible, infuriating mess to use. I think they’re leaning into the square screen format for the keyboard, and using the marketability of “less doom scrolling” to try and net people who feel they want to get away from the apps.
