Shame it needs to be law. It used to be common sense that having armed masked lawless thugs roaming the streets was A Bad Thing.

So what happens when they do it anyway and receive federal protection for doing so? Because that’s my guess regarding how this restriction is going to go. These fucks already break laws - they probably aren’t going to be super likely to follow the law that makes them easier to identify after they break other ones.

I’d love to see this clash, but I doubt it will happen. A law that isn’t enforced is worthless.

“It’s illegal for law enforcement to wear masks, and he was wearing a mask, so he must have been a private citizen committing assault, so I put two rounds in his dome.”

IIRC this is actually a civil suit, it requires the citizen to make the lawsuit, which makes it even more teethless. I actually wish this wasn’t getting this much reporting on as I think it’s pretty worthless fanfare.

Best outcome is giving states more legal grounding for refusing to aid the feds.

I work in municipal government, and while my current city hasn’t had any direct issues with ICE, my old town had them trying to use city hall as a base of operation. The city was lucky in that the parking lot layout was weird because it was built around existing trees, and the only place long enough for the prison busses was the fire lane, so the fire department was able to force them to move and they just ended up leaving town because they didn’t want to deal with the hassle.

The irony. The “I can’t breathe while I’m working crowd” refuses to wear masks when ordered to, then refuses to unmask, and then have to be ordered to unmask.

They have a problem with orders.

Was wondering why the CA law didn’t actually happen…

“Wiener said he and colleagues had crafted the No Secret Police Act in consultation with constitutional law experts, but had “removed state police from the bill” based on conversations with Newsom’s office.”

    Fuck Newsome.

More make it illegal to turn off their body cameras. Oh and enforce it all. Make 3rd offences mandatory termination with an attached ban on law enforcement jobs for 2 years.

While I’m at it is like a billion dollars and a unicorn.

Good except lifetime ban on LEO work. If you can’t handle the basic requirements of an entry level position in a job that requires a higher standard of care, you shouldnt be allowed back. I feel the same way I would about a nurse or doctor who injures patients.

This is a nice symbolic gesture.

However, they will keep wearing masks in spite of it, because they’re FEDS and they look upon the State government with contempt, one step away from how they look at “civilians”.

how is the supremacy clause settled?

regardless, I didn’t vote for the legislators who created ice, nor the judges who settled any of the relevant case law. abolish all those laws

There is no federal law that says ICE can wear masks, it’s policy only, which means state law should hold. There would need to be an actual federal law passed to supercede it.
