Thought up a new story? Is it really original or is it kind of similar to something that already happened to some other characters?

Why waste time setting up new characters and a world when you could just use some existing characters and get straight to the point of the story you’re trying to tell?

People don’t want to learn new things. They don’t want to learn about new characters. They want to see the adventures of the characters they already know and love. Just make everything part of a series based on something we already have from now on.

I actually love this idea. I want to see how they modernise and subvert spider-man’s origin. But not by too much! I still want ti recognise some of that old spidey in there

Just like finding people with leftist beliefs you have to seek out people who write and consume original content.

When I go out trying to talk about my novels I meet reinforced steel walls of disinterest everywhere I go. It’s easier to get into a job or relationship than it is to get someone to ask a follow up question about my story idea. So you don’t see me with a T shirt that says “ask me about my OC characters.” In that sense you’re not just going to stumble into new stories because it’s not fun or fruitful to try and advertise them.

If people found a solution it’s probably like some meet up group, critique group, discord channel, or the like. All that the general public is ever going to know about are (by definition) breakout hits and by that time the author+publishing house+studio+director will not exactly be interested in your feedback.

Exactly, walk around with a T shirt saying “Ask me about my OCs” and no one cares.

But if you wore a shirt saying “Follow me on AO3 for my problematic age gap fanfics” and then had a QR code on the back linking directly to your author profile, people would follow you everywhere

  • Yes, agreed. I’m especially tired of these insufferable artists trying to deliver a story using any structure other than the Hero’s Journey. I’ll make an exception for Save the Cat beats exclusively for Ratatouille remakes.
