Central and South America are not playing with white people anymore. As a whole. When we were headed to Guatemala the State Dept. said to be careful taking photos at random w/ kids around and it’s because western white people and missionaries have a history of kidnapping kids down there for adoption. And those people will KILL YOU if they think you’re down there preying on kids.
Finally, consequences for white sex tourists.
And those people will KILL YOU if they think you’re down there preying on kids.
Seems like a reasonable reaction
pedo found dismembered, stuffed in closet after being discovered looking for new bride after his marriage to teenager failed.

I get where you’re coming from but I also don’t think it’s a bad thing to remove references to a person’s ethnicity when you find out they’ve done something horrendous. Antisemitism still exists (see: Bondi shooting etc) and it isn’t a good idea to stoke more of it, especially when preying on children is one of the oldest antisemitic conspiracy theories. Maybe the bit about him being Jewish should have been left out of the first one, I guess.
The only reason the fact of being jewish was relevant at first was because they wanted to find or imply that this was yet another sad incidence of anti semitism. Why else would anybody harm such a visibly jewish man? It was being teed up to talk about how bigoted latin american people are.
I am completely done with this idea that old european shit about blood libel should give any pause when it comes to discussing crimes of jews or anybody else. And i will also note that if you read the coverage in the jewish press (see my links in other comments, which are representative), their own accounting of it is that he was using his connections to hasidic communities to basically travel around Latin America (after trying/failing same shtick in Ukraine?) trying to find a child to marry him. They were fully aware of his purpose and facilitated it. His best friend is quoted as saying that single men don’t really have a place in their community so he was under a lot of pressure to get a wife. For some unknown reason he can’t get one from Canada, US or Israel. (It is mentioned that he is a father, so I suppose he has an ex wife. Divorces not easy to obtain in these communities.) So the real story is of a white man using the imperialism of US/Canada/Israel to force a girl/woman from a less powerful nation to bind herself to him. He would then presumably bring her back to NY, where she would be under substantial pressure from him and his community (who are known to enforce marriages) to submit to him sexually, domestically, and in all other ways. And add to that, leaving the prison of the home they share could lead to apprehension by ICE. While being Jewish was not a key part of the original story (a guy who was randomly killed), it is a key part of the emerging story, though not as anticipated.
Now, because of the hand wringing like this, all that story will be “touchy” to cover.
To give counter example, LGBT+ people are also considered to be inherently dangerous to children and to be committing crimes against them. And sometimes of course, it happens. So should we all start using gender-neutral pronouns to refer to Kevin Spacey, lest we malign all gay men by association?
No, that would be stupid. Also, we do not find any even semi-legit organizations defending these people. No queers claim Peter Theil as being unfairly maligned brother. But look at this situation where it is evident to all involved that he was up to no good, his friends and religious community knew he was doing sex tourism, and helped him out with it. And now Israel and Israeli organizations are swooping in to save him from any indignity. They wish, on the basis of Jewishness, to exempt him from the normal criminal justice proceedings as a victim. One might speculate because there is further information to be found and any investigation at all would doubtless bump into it.
Maybe the bit about him being Jewish should have been left out of the first one, I guess.
I think that’s the point people are making, people’s ethnicity/religion should generally be left put of headlines unless directly relevant. And outlets should have a consistent policy towards that.
Initially including those identifying characteristics then removing them when more info is revealed that paints the victim in a less than innocent light, and doing that for only a specific ethnicity/religion increases the number of people that will identify a positive bias in that outlet towards that ethnicity/religion, i.e. in this case increasing the number of people who believe that the media carves out an expectation for jewish people which in turn leads to an increase in antisemitism
my overall point being the outlets with a bias towards jewish people are responsible for contributing to an increase in antisemitism, not the people identifying these clear biases
Can’t say for sure if it is actually the same article since there is no source, but NYP now has this dated April 30 2026: NYC dad found dismembered in Colombia was there to meet new wife: pal

NYC dad found murdered and dismembered in Colombia was there to meet new wife, pal says
Reuven Fenton, Jorge Fitz-Gibbon
A Hasidic dad from Brooklyn whose body was dismembered and dumped by Colombian thugs was in South America to meet a potential new wife, a close pal told The Post.
Nachum Israel Eber, 51, a member of the Boro Park Belz Hasidic community, was found dismembered inside a bloody wardrobe that was dumped on a street in Bogota on Sunday.
Colombian authorities and media mistook the visitor from the Big Apple as a rabbi — though his friends say he was a building developer and plumber.

“It’s a terrible tragedy,” close friend Motti Dresdner said on Thursday.
“A person, a gentleman in his prime. He was always talking about his future, how he was going to get remarried and find a perfect bride, and have a beautiful life. And to be cut off like this is very sad.”
Dresdner said Eber, a divorced dad, had found a possible new wife in the Hasidic community in Bogota, and traveled there to meet her.
Eber was captured on haunting surveillance video leaving his Airbnb in the Colombian capital around 9 p.m. on April 21 — then disappeared without a trace.
Days later, bystanders reported seeing the bloody wardrobe on the other side of the city, which was later confirmed by authorities as Eber.
Police have not determined a motive for the grisly slaying, but believe he may have been targeted by violent gangs that thrive on robbing tourists.

Eber’s family is now making arrangements to bring his body home for burial.
“He wouldn’t hurt a fly,” Dresdner said.
“He was always kind, always with a smile. He always spoke positively. In his hardest times, he would always talk about how things are going to work out for the best, he makes the best of everything. He always tried to make lemonade out of lemons.
“The community is devastated, the community is in shock, how a person goes there just to take care of personal business and end up like this,” he added. “It just makes everything feel unstable.”
Officials at the US Embassy in Bogota did not immediately respond to request for comment.

I would like to note that above you see the names “Rabbi Nuchem Yasir Ebeth”, “Nachum Israel Eber” which appear to be refering to the same person. Other articles refer to variations like “Rabbi Nachum Israel Ober”. NYP says he is not a rabbi and this was wrongly reported by Columbians, the inference being that he looked so jewish they assumed. But you can see in their own alt tags and captions, they also do this. Also the other articles, see my other comment, which are from the zionist jewish press, call him rabbi.
It could all be variations on the same name, with romanizations and which of various available names you use. Sloppy editing if nothing else to not have a single consistent name even within a single article.
How do they know they were ‘thugs’?
thug convention circuit
The thing no one tell you about the thug life is all the flights
do you think all those guys in the beginning of Moonraker got their airline miles?
So according to the NYP article, and a couple other pieces I read (below), this guy seems to have travelled to Columbia to obtain a childbride from a Hasidic community located there. Therefor, I doubt the premise of the x post at top. His wife-to-be would have been provided to him by her family. He wasn’t just riding the bus and flirting with random kids. [ETA: See my reply to this comment… it has credible contradictory information to my speculation here.]
Furthermore, Israeli state and allied groups are attempting to intervene in the murder investigation, specifically prevent an autopsy. There is a very confused reporting of basic facts, such as the circumstances of the body. It was either found in a remote area, or on the street stuffed into a wardrobe (the smell made it suspicious), or in an abandoned apartment. Strangely no calls for justice, vengeance, or accusations of anti semitism at all. They just want to get the body out of columbia ASAP.
I would be curious if stuffing someone in a wardrobe is typical local practice of a mugging, even a very badly implemented mugging. It seems like a lot of work for not much reward (the items a person is carrying around).
My guess is that they are not interested in more information coming out about this man, his previous “failed marriage”, his business in Columbia etc.

Authorities in Colombia continue to investigate the death, while coordinating with Israeli and Jewish officials, according to reports.
Eber is survived by his immediate family and 16 siblings living in Belz communities across the United States, Canada and Israel.
Members of ZAKA, together with members of the local Jewish community, are working with Colombian authorities to secure the release of the body and expedite legal procedures, the organization says.
“This is a difficult and painful incident of a Jew murdered far from home,” says Yossi Landau, a member of its international unit. “We thank the local Jewish community in Colombia and all those working to bring him to Jewish burial as soon as possible.”
- 16 siblings! holy fuck.
- when I read this “far from home” in the context of the original story “an NYC man” but we also have “Israeli authorities” commenting I was like, what is this going to mean? In the next article, you find out, his body is to “repatriated” to israel
Boro Park Rabbi Found Dead in Colombia — ZAKA Steps In:

A trip to Colombia ended in tragedy for Rabbi Nachum Israel Ober, a 51-year-old member of the Belz Hasidic community from Boro Park, Brooklyn, whose body was found this week in a remote area of the country. Relatives say they lost contact with him during his visit and, after several days without hearing from him, turned to community activists for help. What followed was a coordinated push by local volunteers, international responders and Colombian authorities to locate him and bring his remains home.
Discovery in remote Colombia
According to The Jerusalem Post, Ober’s body was discovered on Monday after days of searching and showed signs of violence.
You can see in the URL of this article that the original title was “found dead in columbian wildnerness”.
Here is a photo from the NYP of the crimescene, which they described as “Passersby reported a blood-soaked wardrobe dumped on a sidewalk in Bogota”

N.Y.C. Rabbi Robbed and Murdered During Trip to Colombia (People, April 28)
excerpted from People
According to preliminary reports, Aber, a father of four and member of the Belz Hasidic community, was robbed and killed by a local criminal gang, per Belaaz.
ZAKA, an Israeli volunteer emergency response organization, was contacted by the family on Monday, April 27 for help arranging for the Rabbi’s body to be released, Yossi Landau, a commander with the South Region in Israel, tells PEOPLE.
Landau says Aber disappeared on April 21 and was found last week, but wasn’t identified until recently.
“He didn’t have any passport,” he says. “They took him to the medical examiner’s office, and they did a search and the family got notified that it was him.”
Aber, who worked in real estate and was originally from Canada, was found in an abandoned apartment, says Landau.
“Every location that we have, it’s different procedures, different rules and regulations that we have to follow,” he says. “And sometimes it’s easier, sometimes it’s more difficult and Colombia is, we all know because also because this is a homicide, it’s even more difficult to release a body. But our goal when we get a phone call is to take whatever information we can get and we try to get in contact with the locals and we start the process.”
Landau says they have two missions. “One is to try to avoid autopsy because that’s in the Jewish law, we know that autopsy is forbidden. And the second mission is to bring him as soon as possible to burial.”
(Why does this “plumber and developer” get covered in People?!)
excerpts from Hoodline cont
As reported by JFeed, Ober’s family reached out to ZAKA’s international center once they realized contact had been lost. The organization’s international unit has since been working with the local Jewish community in Colombia and with officials there to secure a rapid release and transport of the remains to Israel. JFeed notes that ZAKA’s legal team is also trying to block an autopsy, which the group views as an obstacle to a swift repatriation.
Legal hurdles and autopsy dispute
Colombian authorities have opened an investigation, and the cause of death has not yet been officially released, which means legal and forensic procedures could slow the transfer of Ober’s remains. Community reports say ZAKA’s legal department is working to prevent an autopsy and move the paperwork along as quickly as possible, underscoring the friction that often surfaces between investigative requirements in suspicious deaths and religious families’ wish for immediate burial.
What the heck is ZAKA? According to wikipedia, it is exactly as classy as you might guess (assuming this is the nicest possible way to describe them):

a series of voluntary post-disaster response teams in Israel
ZAKA faced insolvency before 7 October 2023. Given the job of retrieving the dead bodies after the October 7 attacks, they started fund-raising on 8 October 2023. By 31 January 2024, they had raised over 50 million shekels ($13.7 million). According to Haaretz, ZAKA’s conduct in the aftermath of the attacks was unprofessional, including mixing up remains and spreading misinformation about atrocities that never happened in order to raise money.[1][2]
Variations of this man’s name (often multiple within the same article): Rabbi Nuchem Yisrael Eber, Rabbi Nachum Aber, Nachum Yisrael Eber, Rabbi Nachum Israel Ober, Nochum Yisrael Eber.
His wife-to-be would have been provided to him by her family. He wasn’t just riding the bus and flirting with random kids.
This is worse
Kindly, the NYP provided a direct link to the original local coverage, dated April 28. There is a Related story in the same publication May 3.
I may have spoken too soon with my comment about the bus? It isn’t definitive whether the girl he ended up marrying was Hasid or not. Although I am doubting if it had been a Hasid arrangement as first assumed, if she would have been allowed to back out after a few weeks of marriage. Also, the allegation that she lied about her age; this would not be difficult within such a community. After the first one ended the marriage, “The man continued to travel through different cities while looking for a new relationship.” Which sounds like he was in fact riding around on the bus flirting with kids. His friends are also claiming to have told him to cut it the fuck out and get back to the USA (which was “home” while he was alive). But also note that single men are outcasts in their community.
Jewish foreigner murdered in Bogotá: his brief marriage to a young Colombian woman

The story behind a young Colombian woman who would have married a Jew found dead in Bogotá
New details suggest that the man would have traveled to Colombia in search of a romantic relationship and would become married to a young Colombian woman, according to the New York Post.
The case of the U.S. citizen of Jewish origin found dead in Bogotá continues to reveal details about his time in Colombia. This is Nachum Israel Eber, a 51-year-old man from New York, who would have traveled to Colombia in search of a romantic relationship and would have married a young Colombian woman, a union that would last a short time before his death.
The man had arrived in Colombia after going through a divorce years ago in his home country. According to accounts of close people given to the American media New York Post, his intention was to find a new partner with whom to remake their lives. During that process, he traveled through different places before looking at Colombia as a destination, in part because of religious links that connected him with communities in the country.
Initially, he would try to find a mate in his close environment and in other countries such as Ukraine, but he was unsuccessful. That’s when he considered traveling to Latin America, in part because of references from people from his religious community who visited Colombia frequently. As Yosef Matheron, a Colombian friend of the American, explained, the man saw the country as an opportunity to start over.
The encounter with a young Colombian woman
During his time in the city of Barranquilla, Eber would have met a young Colombian woman with whom he began a relationship. People close to the case say he believed she was older than real when they started dating. The relationship advanced quickly and, in a short time, they would have decided to get married. "He mentioned that he was considering meeting someone to marry, and finally found the ideal person," Matheron said.
The couple would marry in a simple ceremony. Subsequently, they held a celebration in Bogotá, which marked the beginning of a stage that, however, would last a short time.
With the passage of the weeks, doubts began to arise from the young woman, who would have said she felt insecure in the face of the commitment acquired. “The young woman ended up breaking up with him, especially because she told her that she didn’t feel prepared; she felt that she was too young and believed that she had rushed to take that step. But it was never something they forced her to do,” the relative added abroad.
After that breakup, Eber would have chosen to remain in the country with the intention of remaking his sentimental life, despite recommendations from relatives who suggested him return to the United States. The man continued to travel through different cities while looking for a new relationship. The interviewee says that his behavior in public spaces - such as speaking in several languages and wearing distinctive clothing - may have made him more visible.
"I was like, ‘Nachum, this is not New York.’ And he began to speak yiddishYiddish**, Hebrew**, and English in plain sight. He was struck by his peculiar clothing and the different languages he spoke," he said. “It’s very hard to live alone in our community. Everyone lives with their families and has children at home,” his best friend said of the possibility of returning to the United States.
Eber was last seen alive on April 21, the same day he last spoke to his friend. Days later, his body was found in Bogotá in circumstances that are still the subject of investigation by the authorities.
