Though, Its rare phenomena and hasn’t happened in years now.
I used to “Blur out” sometimes where my vision turns blurry and the voices around me become muffled, and unlike spacing out, i am very aware of what’s happening around me / to me.
I usually can snap out of if i want to, by Shaking my head, but its odd because i find very draining to muster the willpower to Shaking my head, feeling very tired
When i was 6, i hit the back of my head against the side of my parents bed. I was jumping on the bed and fell and had to get stitches. Maybe that is the cause of my blurring out?
I get like that when my blood pressure drops very low, but I have abnormally low blood pressure unless I take insane amounts of salt to counterbalance that.
Next time it happens, try tensing your abs. That will raise your blood pressure, and if it counteracts your blurring out, then it might be a blood pressure issue, instead of some sort of traumatic brain injury, like you’re afraid of.
Same. I was morbidly obese and on several blood pressure meds to lower my blood pressure. As shed the weight and got fit, my blood pressure meds were too much, and I would get that blurred feeling, especially if stood up quickly.
The standing up thing is called orthostatic hypotension, and flexing your quads is a bit more effective than your abs to fix it.
I don’t get the standing up too fast “blackout” a lot , just sometimes. We always called it a freebie. I thought it was normal.

Was your head already cactus back then?
What?
Sorry, I didn’t mean to be offensive. I don’t know of any other cactus head people. Is it a medical condition?
I dont know what cactus head people?
This kind?

Yeah, I dont see my pfp on Lemmy(unlike say discord). The joke didn’t fly over my head as much as shot to the Andromeda galaxy.
I’m the same way when people offer me crack. Like. what do you mean?
Are you doing a bit right meow?
Nah,i am just dumb. Was legit googling cactus head medical condition.
That’s hilarious.
I’ve had some goofy moments but I don’t think I’ve ever forgotten my name.
😭
Well they did hit their head (presumably) a while back.
You might be describing orthostatic hypotension. Does it occur when you move after a long period of staying still?
I dont think so, but it has been years since it happened.
I hit my head a lot as a kid. I periodically experience what I assume is a form of epilepsy (no my doctor has not been any help.) It can happen at any moment, even while I am asleep. It starts very suddenly and feels surreal, like dejavu. That feeling subsides (sometimes i get flashes of dreams I have had) and is replaced by nausea, sometimes enough to make me puke. Afterwards, I tend to be mildly confused and my working memory is hindered. I have a hard time remembering what day or season it is and what the structure of my day is sposed to be. Its very annoying and I don’t believe I could get to the bottom of it without them scanning my brain while it occurs.
No, occasionally my mind and body totally disassociate though and it feels like I’m looking through a new set of eyes? It’s hard to explain and only lasts briefly. Happening since I was a child.
yeah, it’s caused by not enough blood/oxygen going to your brain.
i have blacked out a few times in my life, that’s exactly what happens before you black out and lose consciousness entirely. it’s a sudden loss of blood pressure. it’s dangerous and a sign something is wrong.
in my case it was heat stroke. in another it was extremely low blood sugar after an adrenaline spike.
Have you asked a doc about it? Might be worth looking into because it could be a symptom of something.
Yeah, as a kid I could do this. Not necessarily on command, but if I zoned out for long enough.
On the contrary, I’ve also had this thing where if I’m too stimulated, it feels like my brain is going in slow motion. Like life gets cut to 15 FPS. Not visually, but mentally. That one hasn’t happened in a few years. I always described it like hitting my RAM limit in my brain and shit just had no where to process.
I can do that part with the eyes on purpose. It’s a bit like not actively using them anymore and they’re just in idle, not focused on anything so everything’s blurry.
Have you tried to focus on something specific instead of shaking your head?It also happens when my attention span sinks and my thoughts become more dominant. Kind of like a warning sign that my social batteries are nearly drained.
I have had that happen when super tired. Maybe too drunk or after having been awake for more than 30 hours straight. Only maybe once out of nowhere, and I could just focus through it and it went away.
That kinda sounds like meditation to me.
Yes, at least that describes the feeling when I start dozing off while listening to a certain way of speaking. Basically a flat affect droning delivery like the “Bueller…bueller” scene from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Like putting my brain into standby mode, not completely asleep but halfway there.
Assuming you mean mental/sensory blurring and not the thing you get from exhaustion or low sugar or blood pressure:
Yeah, and I think it is linked to meditation and all that shit. As a kid, I used to blur out the voices in a packed bus to pass the time and calm down, for example. Fun little exercise.
I had very similar experiences with psychedelic drugs, and while I am not really into medidation, I occasionally use it as a sort of starting point to, I guess, do a bit of a mental break. First I let the eyes “relax”, then if I’m lucky, the ears and then the brain. If you do that for more than a few minutes, you can end up in some funny mental places.
