They are right; The United states followed by Israel are the biggest existential threat to the world, and something has to be urgently done about these rogue nazi states that are armed to the teeth and actively trying to spiral the world into self extintion.

It’s a government alliance/colonial control arrangement. People are the ones being surveyed and have clearer picture. IT would be interesting to see how close Russophobia propagandized EU countries are close to the correct answer.

Why the hell is the Dominican Republic so worried about Russia?

Spain doesn’t even think Russia is the world’s greatest threat.

‘Respondents are asked in an open-text answer which country they see as the greatest threat to the world. This gives people the chance to choose whichever country comes to mind. 32,133 responses are then classified with large language models to identify each country named.’

So instead of an actual menu with the actual countries??

I’ve talked to plenty of Americans who do not know the difference between a country and its capital.

But what if they said Taiwan/Palestine, which are not countries by some definitions but might be a persons first choice?

By having an LLM interpret natural language answers, we have eliminated that bias without introducing any new ones! /s

And all of them are right, except Israel (I’m assuming they’re the ones who said Iran).

Any country with nuclear weapons can end the world at the press of a button, or even just with a momentary slip-up.

Surprised India and Pakistan didn’t say eachother. Also surprised South Korea didn’t say North Korea. And is Taiwan treated as a separate state in this data set or not?

I can’t find the original data set but these results don’t match what I found in a quick google search.

If you’re not directly affected by the conflict, I assume the US as a global power does seem like a bigger threat to the world at large. The respective neighbours are a local problem, to be sure, but not strictly global. That said…

And is Taiwan treated as a separate state in this data set or not?

I suspect not. They’d likely be biased in favour of the US.
