Spoiler alert: The rest of the photos are boring.

Funny how these UFOs, or “UAPs” as they are known now have changed over the years. Since the advent of decent digital cameras the quality of photos of these things hasn’t improved. Couldn’t be that people are just misidentifying things, clearly just a sign that they aren’t the hyper detailed craft people used to describe them as, they are literally blurry and lacking detail.

It’s kind of shame there’s so little study into the folklore of UFOs, they’re modern day myths and legends, and a good folklorist could probably figure out why a society tells such stories to themselves and why some people are so desperate to believe.

Personally, I can only think of two possibilities when it comes to UFOs:

      1. [significantly less likely] Aliens exist, and they’re here to study and observe us (what the hell else would they be doing?). No government really knows that much more than the odd photo/rumor, but are cagey about admitting to that ignorance.

      2. It’s just hopeful people seeing what they want to see. It seems life on earth is relatively early, cosmologically speaking. Unless we’ve gotten it very very wrong, 12 billion years is rather young for a universe. There’s a lot that has to go right for life to happen. We’re probably all there currently is. If there’s no way around relativistic limits, we’re definitely all there is in practical terms.

2 is an underexplored idea in scifi. There’s always ancient species with giant megastructures all over the universe, but we might just be one of the first ones getting into the boat and exploring
