This red card business is just a microcosm of American cultural viewpoint that any act done by America is an innately righteous act because America does it

An awful despicable culture

This is the default response to open corruption by most of American pundit class - Wiesenthal, Silver, etc. Detached, cynical quips. None of these people reacted to the massive scale of insider trading revealed just days ago. This is how a nation rots.

Very on-brand for Americans to come into a realm they normally pay little attention to and immediately start condescendingly talking down to everyone about it like they’re suddenly an expert.

Cenk genuinely thinks that the difference between a yellow card and a red card in football is the same as the difference between manslaughter and murder in the burger legal system because that’s how bad his Dick Wolf-induced brain rot is.

The US supports Israel to the hilt, is starving Cuba and is threatening to exterminate Iranian civilization. If you’re cheering for them at the World Cup, it’s the equivalent of a German cheering for their country at the 1936 olympics.

We’ve convened a panel and they’ll take 1-3 years to gather information about Balogun’s mental state and whether he acted with malicious intent during the event.

Cenk should stick to his lane normalizing transphobia and laundering imperialism.

Wasn’t Cenk vocally “concerned” about trans athletes? I’m not really a sports guy, and haven’t watched even an instant of these Olympics, but any consideration on his opinion re: unfair advantages in sports begins and ends with his shit views of trans athletes.

Both Cenk and Ana have been throwing trans people under the bus, and revealed themselves to be massive opportunists who spout reactionary garbage on their shitty “progressive” show.

I’m going to be very deep lol and ask is it even possible to have fair sporting competition under capitalism. I used to enjoy cricket but the advantage the financially well off countries have over the poor countries has made the sport essentially a dead/dying sport. Despite the governing bodies surprisingly forward thinking approach (with one exception) to growing the sport.

If anyone cares about the one exception (you probably shouldn’t tbh lol), this was the popularization of a new shorter format of the sport that quickly dominated the game while reducing the skill level of the players. At the same time every country started holding leagues inviting international players to join while paying much more than regular cricket. Now players getting more money is fine but it basically rolled the soul out of the game because the longer and more challenging and skillful forms of the game are played a lot less.

So that is what the governing body is promoting. Which is shockingly long term thinking for a financially driven organization. The problem is that the resource are just far lesser for the poorer counties and this translates into lower player quality and competitiveness by the poorer countries. I mean we see in football too. Why hasn’t an African team won a WC? Literally just $

Honestly both the red card and the overturn were a mistake. VAR was used incorrectly in the red card. There’s also the fact that there wasn’t this level of anger when a very similar happened to Ronaldo. Also, Kkkeir SStarmer called FIFA yesterday to try and keep them from changing the kickoff time of the Mexico England game. Fuck Trump, fuck FIFA, fuck the US, but this situation is really shitty. I feel for the players, especially Balogun who didn’t ask for any of this and handled the original red card maturely. Also fuck Belgium, trying to take some moral high ground when this match is turbo hitler particle charged

The referee gives you a red card if you commit a severe foul (there are specific rules about what qualifies, but that’s outside the scope of this comment).

If you get a red card, you are kicked out of the game immediately, your team plays the rest of the game without you nor any replacement for you, and you are not allowed to play the next game (but your team will have the usual 11 players).

The deal is that Trump called FIFA (an extremely corrupt organization) and asked for an appeal for a US team player who got a red card in the last game. FIFA has rescinded the red card so that player will be available for the next game. Trump has just been blatantly talking about this in the media, just being like “doesn’t seem fair that he should miss the next game for something that happened in the last one…” As though everyone needed his opinion on whtheer red cards are fair or not. I guess FIFA cared though

wasn’t a red, bans should be reviewable/reversable, clear precedent for review/reversal of ban, the best players should play, winners should be decided on the field, belgium has no standing to complain as it wasn’t the party harmed by the foul, trump is obviously simply declaring himself the proximate cause of the reversal for clout, no substantive difference between trump appealing to officials or Belgium’s counter appeal

soccer fans say they like soccer but seem to hate when it’s played. hopefully for them soon the entire match will be subsumed by VAR, and all momentum and moments of beauty are extinguished in favor of AI surveillance, a regime of inhuman technicalities.
