From an American-
I’m sure by now you all have seen our government’s ‘official response’ to your wildfires. I saw that, and as an American I am beyond appalled. Please know that the public statements made by our government do not reflect the thoughts and beliefs of the majority of the American people.
When the US had wildfires, Canada sent us significant support including numerous firefighting aircraft, air crews, and support equipment. This was not a small token contribution, it made a real difference. It saved lives and property and forest. That is how neighbors and friends are supposed to help each other out, and we appreciated the hell out of it. It is not forgotten.
To hear that our ‘official response’ to your wildfires is to threaten… I have no words to describe the feeling. I am proud to be American, I love my country, but today I am ashamed. That these things are being said as representative of me and my countrymen… it is beyond shameful. We are supposed to be better than this. Better allies, better neighbors, better humans. I am ashamed and angry that my government is representing me and my fellow Americans in this manner.
I can only say that the majority of Americans do not feel this way. Forget the propaganda you see on the news (and it is mostly propaganda). The people of this country love our northern friends, we feel for you. We don’t want to annex Canada or punish you for a natural disaster or any of this crap. We want you all to be safe. We want to help.
THAT is who we are, even if we suck at electing politicians that represent that belief.
Stay safe. Be well. We love you.

We know it’s not all of you (okay, maybe not the internet tough guys here, but Canadians IRL). Bonus points for adding a French version.
I would say, consider if you should really love a country if it does bad things. The US isn’t Nazi Germany (yet?), but it’s not what it was in the 90’s, either. Professing your love of America is kind of mandatory civic piety in America, but, that’s actually a red flag itself.
I actually agree with this 100%. We are definitely somewhere between our peak in the '90s and a bad place. And I agree that mandatory civic piety is always a bad sign. It’s actually one of my biggest frustrations about USA currently, I feel like a lot of Americans babble about how much they love the country and love freedom but don’t actually take any real action to uphold the real ideals of freedom as our founders did.
A lot of MAGA people and also evangelicals exemplify this. ‘I Love America and I love freedom! But if you don’t support my religion or prejudice against LGBT or my political goals then no freedom for you!’ They buy a bunch of guns and talk about how they are ready to defend freedom for all Americans, and then support political processes that strip freedoms from many Americans. I think it’s a mixture of ignorance and hypocrisy in various measures.
One of the most frustrating things is ‘I love my country’ sounds exactly the same whether it comes from someone of principle or someone parroting a line. I can only speak for myself, but when I say I love what my country stands for I am talking about the ideals ensconced in our Constitution by our founders. The idea that we are not sheep, we are not peasants, we are each responsible for our own nation. Government of the people by the people for the people. Unfortunately a lot of our country has drifted away from those ideals in many ways.
Also sort of a question, I know Canada is bilingual and there is some portion of the country that primarily or solely speaks French. Thus it seemed disrespectful and presumptive/arrogant to address the country speaking only in English. But I am curious what the proper etiquette is for such things. Do all Canadian websites have an English/French toggle button?

Large commercial and government websites do, and constitutionally, government service and education has to be available in either. Packages in stores also have a French and English side, and in Quebec, there’s additional rules and fines that require French to be first or more prominent on everything. Sadly, a lot of anglos have shitty/nonexistent French, though. Especially in western Canada.
Pretty much all Quebecers speak English, and English is also the international language. I doubt any offence would be taken if you had stuck to it, but going bilingual was a nice thought.
Any product or service intended to be sold nationally must be in English and French.
So websites, commercial packaging, the phone tree for national agencies, etc all have French.
Once you get to the prairies and west, random people don’t speak French much, and nearly all local stores have signs and menus in English only.
It’s a pain 'cause if you’re a shame kinkster and you party in more than one province, you need to make sure people write “whore/putain” on you with equally sized letters, they DO check at airports and train stations. /S
What the fuck even is the point of this post? We don’t care that you’re sorry.
It’s not very Canadian to not appreciate a good apology.
How is this a good apology, though?
“Oh I’m not like them!” Is all I’m hearing. I’m sure OP is a great individual, but… So what?
Your opinion of me is quite irrelevant.
The only thing I want people to take away from this whole thread is that there are a lot of Americans who strongly oppose Trump, who love and support Canada, and who find the current messages coming out of Washington abhorrent. It certainly doesn’t make anything better. My only hope is when you watch the news and you see the crap coming out of Washington, you keep in mind that crap is coming out of Washington and not most of the rest of the country. You have friends here.
I realize that means scant little when your country is on fire and your neighbor’s government is telling you to fuck off and threatening to tax or conquer you.Maybe we’re just coming from two very different assumptions. You’re assuming there might be Canadians dumb enough to think all Americans are MAGA, and I’m thinking there’s no way any of us are that dumb. I’m probably being too optimistic though, so thanks for the reminder.
I think there’s a difference between logically knowing that some undefined but non zero number of Americans oppose MAGA, and actually seeing one of them stand up publicly against what the government is saying.
If anything I wish more people would do what I am doing. I would love if every time Trump says one of these bullshit things there was a loud outcry online of Americans disavowing his awful international relations.
I’ll have to agree to disagree with you there because as a Canadian who is aware that you can’t just assume everyone from a certain country can be lumped up as a whole, it comes off as annoying. But from now on, I’ll keep such opinions to myself because I now see what you’re trying to accomplish.
Good luck out there, friend.
Fellow American here. Do you strongly dislike Trump enough to stop funding his funders?
It’s a good sign you’re on the fediverse. But where are you shopping? Walmart? Amazon?
Unfortunately, it is nearly unavoidable to boycott Trump’s funders entirely. But there alsovneeds to be a level of accountability for how we got here.
We got here because we continued to support companies that dismantled our Democracy (Citizen’s United). Those companies got the power because we chased the shiny things. We went for the lower price, ignoring the local businesses that charged a bit more but supported the local economy.
We sat back while Democrats earned a reputation of not standing for anyone or anything (except Israel). Maybe we voted for the lesser of 2 evils, but we never demanded better.
We’re here, in our 2nd Trump presidency, with maybe the start of an answer in the DSA. But let’s be real, civilized countries consider DSA policies as centrist. The DSA is our far left with any power, and it has shockingly little power considering how bad our politicians have been for years. I’m glad that Bernie ran in 2016, I’m glad that the movement built, and I’m glad that now we’re finally starting to see DSAs make a name for themselves and get elected into real positions, but let’s be real: if we were fucking sorry about Trump then the DSA would have had the power it currently has in 2018.
Fuck off. If you loved us you would DO SOMETHING besides just complaining online
I assure you we are trying. Our election structure does not allow us to replace the executive government for another couple years. Congress, our legislative body, is the only ones that can forcibly remove a sitting President. Multiple decades of having Congressional elections ignored by voters attentions has left our Congress thoroughly dysfunctional.
So that means short of some real smoking gun there is little option for rapid change.
nah, you’re enabling them. playing by the rules is enabling them. you’re trying to wait it out without taking action. you even admit it.
things aren’t going to get better with the action currently being taken.
So what action are you suggesting? We do demonstrations and protests and letters and all that but Trump has made it very clear he does not give one single shit what other people think.
We have a Congressional election coming up later this year and it is currently expected that those who oppose Trump will win significant numbers.
Or are you suggesting forget about peaceful action within the bounds of the Constitution and go straight to armed rebellion?
Personally I would rather have the country reject Trump in elections and walk away from this whole thing with a bad taste in its mouth that would make it harder for someone like him to gain power in the future, than to have some kind of violent illegal uprising that would only strengthen Trump’s supporters.
Demonstrations aren’t going to change enough. You’re not going to idly vote yourself out of this.
No sympathy, please. Our elected government, voted in for a second term by Americans too God damn dumb to realize they were getting conned, erased 100 years of progress in six months. All through propaganda aimed at REAL America. Middle States, southern states, predominately white states, where more Americans live maleducated lives in poverty, working as manual labor in yesterdays industries because they weren’t afforded the luxuries of other states. The imbalance of power is wilder than I’ve ever experienced. Someone said “send help.” While some of you scoffed at this plea, or just shit all over it, I can feel the desperation. I’m about as far left as I can get without removing walls of logic. We literally have concentration camps. An SS of fuckers too scared to join the military and too fucking dumb to be cops abducting folks, while onlookers are fired upon so these fucks can protect their identities (black and latinx Americans working for ICE can suck a .22, anything white that moves in groups of 4 or more males, shoot on sight).
Uneducated Americans with generational hatred toward anything different than themselves. Their pappy’s pappy hated everything other than white straight people, and that shit gets handed down like a fucking family heirloom. I know. I had to break those chains in my family. Parents have died, other family members, formwr close friends, and I refuse to shed a tear for any of them. The first time they voted him in, I told these people I would never speak to them again. Now my friend and family circle is just me, wife, and cat, but I can also sleep well at night knowing I wasn’t a hypocrite or bending in my beliefs.
Which brings me to action. I believe I am doing as much as I can in the interest of my safety, the safety of my wife and cat, and the safety of other Americans (and nonamericans) regardless of political alignment. I struggle with self control in volatile situations. Regardless of strategy, andvance knowledge, scenario, my brain abandons logic and goes on the offensive. No flight, only fight. Never unjustly, in my opinion, at least if you consider yourself antifascist and subscribe to those beliefs.
I’ve also been to prison. I didn’t enjoy it, and although nothing bad happened to me aside from a week-long migraine, I’ll never place myself in a position where I could find myself coming out the other end locked-uo because I was fighting for my rights. Not sure what jails/prisons other Americans been in, but no bueno. Shout out to Catshit, MParker, and Texas.
So action… I want to burn it all down. I fantasize about it (and more!). The thought of certain inevitable deaths fill me with enthusiasm, fire. I don’t want to be passionate about any of this, but I am because other people living in America are losing their rights to fucking exist. Meanwhile, shitheads like me want nothing more than to avenge these nameless, faceless fellow Americans and immigrants. I probably don’t like these people (i like few), but they have rights, and therefore worth fighting for. I would love for all of us to collectively go John Wick on the likes of the far right, but unlike those MAGAts, some of us are just too wise to do anything that could fail so miserably. I’d love to go strength in numbers with all of you fellow people wanting to fight back, but where the fuck is everyone? I’m in a RED AF state. My local antifa is us. Assuming the cat isn’t a fascist piece of shit. What can I do beyond the writing, blogging, calling (might as well punch yourself in the balls twice instead), showing up? When I travel, so do my stickers, masks, and my get fucked bag. I’m unapologetically antifascist. I also hate all other Americans, including those of us too pussy or too fucking locked down in middle class purgatory with a career in a dead state, a cross species family settled into a nice single family home, just enough money to be able to afford the hottest new game eight months after it’s release on deep discount used through GameFly and still be able to eat in. Sounds like heaven, and compared to the atrocities happening around the world, I can’t complain. I also can’t march up to the granite stairs armed to the teeth like the Jan 6 fuckers. Precedent suggests I’d be DOA. We need a militia, or at least thirty middle-aged fucks like myself willing to live out our fever dreams in the name of saving democracy. I have no friends. For fucks sake, I spend time lurking here. Who you think I am?
This is unprecedented. We’re not taught shit about fascism in school. I learned on my own in college after reading books suggested by likeminded people. We don’t know what to do. Voting has been our weapon, by design by our forefathers (whom were also likely scumbag pedophiles), and now that it has been proven ineffective, we’re kinda at a loss. So we protest, peacefully until some homophobe gets butt hurt over rainbows or someshit. Then we’re persecuted, arrested, lives and careers wrecked. Unless you die a folk hero, you’re just another cow on the tracks. We have concentration camps. An SS abducting people REGARDLESS of citizenship status. Mass survelence. Unprecedented. Meanwhile, when we’re not protesting, we’re doing arts and crafts for protesting, or being wage slaves making just enough money to afford food and water. If you have a pet or, God forbid, a family, and you’re not making $120,000 on a cushy part-time schedule, where’s the fucking time, money, and energy necessary to organize and fight? We’re boned. The only way I truly see this ending is in another civil war. With all of us so integrated, it will literally be next door neighbor vs next door neighbor. We could use an intervention from abroad, but we don’t deserve one. Or at least HALF of Americans don’t deserve one. Some of us still trying to fight the good fight against literal evil, equipped with nothing but our wits. Voting has become sooo convoluted, the average American is probably reluctant to even participate. You should see the ballots. I’m currently working on my PhD in my late 40s, and I have to read, reread, and reread again some of the shit on these ballots. No fucking way Earl from the Creek gonna know half the words on that sumbish, let alone hit an option correctly with that pencil eraser and those meth shakes.
It’s bad. Most all of us are fucking assholes. I hate people who look like me, because people who look like me are the villains. Not defending OP per se, but maybe this was their way of expressing discontent with America as an American. I hate the post too, don’t get me wrong, but some of us are struggling with the absolute absurdity of all this, want it to end immediately, are willing to help, but haven’t a clue how aside from using the tools we were given. They could give a fuck about my 2nd ammendement rights if I roll up armed to the teeth wanting to “talk.”
Don’t give us a break, but don’t assume we’re all behind this shitshow. This can happen anywhere, and it happens fast. No political party is any better than the other, because they’re all politicians. But even the less evil side can’t get their shit together enough to combat this.
This is long. Sorry.
- Just another American
“the public statements made by our government do not reflect the thoughts and beliefs of the majority of the American people.”.
brother please…
we don’t blame just the one guy that got elected. the problem is the USA people who’ve been wanting Donald Trump as their leader for like the last 10 years…
They’ll do it again…
Yeah it was possible to recover from one term of Trump. When he got re-elected there’s no coming back.
Most Americans may not want to annex Canada if you put that to a poll, but they voted for someone who would, with their eyes wide open. Or willingly stayed in an information bubble that allowed them to do so.
…I’m sorry, but the first assertion is just not true. Most of us Americans DID this, and we are going to keep doing it. This is who we are now.
“I’ve shaken the hands of American firefighters in northern Manitoba who are helping us out,” said Premier Wab Kinew, whose province has endured a deadly and devastating wildfire season in which thousands of people have been forced to evacuate from their homes.
“I would challenge these ambulance chasers in the U.S. Congress to go and do the same, and to hear how much the American firefighting heroes who are here — how much they love our province.”
“This is what turns people off politics,” added Kinew. “When you’ve got a group of congresspeople trying to trivialize and make hay out of a wildfire season where we’ve lost lives in our province.” 2025, CBC
The O&G politicians did this finger-pointing war-drum-banging media blitz last year too. Remember?
People were sharing info about nurdles, orphan wells, lobbying etc, and we’re all trying to organize responses to help the people and places that need it. And suddenly… there were all the “ambulance chasers” and culture warriors north and south of all our shared borders, ready to make the most of our collective tragedy while draining energy and empathy from our collective FEEDS. United Statesian Cons said “your smoke is touching my border” and Canadian Cons were like “no but we’re friieends and WE helped you out” [important to note that not a single one of these windbags has ever done anything to fight any of the fires currently burning].
And here they are doing it again.
idgaf what King Trumptrumptrumpingofftowar has to say about anything. And I hate Captain Canada DoFo for amplifying that shit, posing for PR while Ontario burns (in part because of his anti-environment aggressively interventionist Lord-Of-The-Manor governance).
[edit bc unasked for advice]
Dont play innocent in your own democracy. You arent.
This post is just like when all the Americans were apologizing for threatening to invade Greenland.
Your apologies aren’t worth shit. Go call your representatives. Go protest. Go organize. Go phone bank for better representatives. Do anything but whine to foreigners online.
Why not both? Promise you we’re doing it.
Lol…here’s the thing…“Promise?” You do realize the one thing most of the rest of the world has learned from this situation? Promises from an American are basically useless. Promise whatever you want. Stop with the “I’m sowwwy! Please tell me I’m a good boy and absolve me” crap. If the responses to your apology here tell you anything it’s that we are fed up with America’s and frankly your crap. You claim to be good people? Fine, show us. Don’t talk about it. Show us.
My dude, how do you know OP isn’t doing anything? I mean odds are they aren’t but neither you nor I know that. You’re right, a few nice words doesn’t absolve an American from anything. The only thing that will is cutting MAGA from their government like a tumor but we shouldn’t be punishing people who are claiming to help. I get the desire to unload all the frustration we feel from America on an American but it doesn’t help.
I’ll leave you with this, why hurt someone who is trying to be an ally? What does that accomplish? Critisizing an ally is okay and good. What does striking an ally do other than drive them away?
It doesn’t matter if Russians are posting online about how they are good Russians that don’t support Putin. The world doesn’t watch drones attack St Petersburg in Russia and ask how many critics of Putin were hurt vs supporters. The west largely simply supports Ukraine.
The same rules apply to Americans. It’s great that there are critics of Trump in the US. Apologies are not necessary nor welcome by Americans. Americans must focus on fixing their own community if they want to offer a genuine apology to the rest of the world. It’s not to drive them away, it’s to turn them back inward instead of them focusing outward.
“What does striking an ally do…blah, blah blah” Excuse me but the way they have treated Canadians lately are you F’n serious? That reply is seriously tone deaf. BTW judging by the new 50% tariffs OrangeFuhrer just hit Canada with if they are doing anything it’s not very effective, lol.
Go fuck yourself. You’re not “one of the good ones,” you’re a fascist enabling coward more interested in virtue signaling than going on the offense against Nazis. You’re a pants-pissing, craven (probably white) milquetoast liberal who cares more about their own relative comfort than about democracy.
… says the guy also just posting on the internet.
When they start doing their proud boy shit up here, check back with me.
The whole “I’ll start tomorrow” thing isn’t ever very convincing.
Like, to be fair, I don’t know you, and that was a guess. 98% of shitposters are just that, though, and >50% of people being told off for it is hypocritical, as a result. So, let’s not.
It “isn’t convincing” in the same way that projecting insincerity onto someone on the internet is a lazy, cheap attack.
And no, let’s- but let’s start with the country that’s sleepwalking through their Nazi problem AND at the same time insisting that they’re “fighting.” If someone is too scared/comfortable to get off their asses and put fascists down, fine- but pretending they’re doing all they can and coming into a Canadian community trying to get credit for simply being ideologically opposed while doing nothing is fucking disingenuous as hell.
It “isn’t convincing” in the same way that projecting insincerity onto someone on the internet is a lazy, cheap attack.
Oooh, sick burn. That phrase definitely makes sense. /s
What phrase, guy?
My comfort is irrelevant. I’m just another idiot on the internet.
But genuine question, you say I am a fascist enabling coward who cares little about democracy.
So what would you have me do? Like, you have a single American who has never voted for or supported Trump, for such a person what does ‘caring about democracy’ look like? What might that single American say or do that would make you say ‘that person right there is no coward, that is a stand-up human being who values democracy’?
I’m asking because you say I do it wrong, I am curious what doing it right looks like?
Just fucking go take a nap, dude.
You’re not asking what to do. You’re asking what you can do that will make other people think you’re a good guy but that doesn’t require any risk or sacrifice on your part. Then I can A) spoonfeed you an answer so you can duck responsibility by way of the “fedposting!” or “keyboard warrior” thought-stopping cliches, or I can B) be as dismissive as you deserve and listen to you get shitty and defensive. This game is so tired, kids.
Your prez is going to tax you because he promotes global warming and the winds blow. The rest of the world knows this is ridiculous. This actually has nothing to do with Canadians, so your time is best spent writing letters to djt instead.
He can’t read.
From what I have seen of Trump, it is pretty clear he does not care what anyone else thinks and his vindictive as hell. So rather than writing him I think I could use my time more productively by repeatedly slamming my face in the refrigerator door. At least that way I’m less likely to end up on some sort of list.
What I do instead is vote for candidates in Congress that oppose Trump and his ideology. And spend time in online discussions like this one making it clear the American people are not in lockstep behind him.
Vote the right way and I’ll put the US on my radar again. Until then, there’s a restraining order in force.
You can’t apologize for other people.
When other people speak on my behalf, I can clarify that I am not part of that, speaking on behalf of the great many people who don’t want to be part of that.
“do not reflect the thoughts and beliefs of the majority of the American people.”
Bullshit. The majority of people who cared enough to vote, voted for this outcome. The rest of your country doesn’t give a shit.
You elected a fucking convicted felon, rapist, child molester and known con man to lead your country. He started a party of MAGA filled with the most deplorable cunts your country can offer. This fat fuck and MAGA members attacks and insult long time allies and partners.
When the US had wildfires, we sent our people to help. Our people have died doing this. This is what allies and friends do.
Next time you’re on fire, I really hope Canada turns our back on you and says “Burn, bitch.” I know we won’t because we still collectively think of you as allies that might get their shit figured out. But the US can eat a big fucking sack of dicks as far as I’m concerned. I fucking tired of this shit.
Quit asking for forgiveness and fix your fucking house. Until then, I don’t care what you have to say.
Remember that Canada only avoided PP because America got to the election first
And Carney gonna have a hard time winning another election if he keeps on his currently strategy so we might end up with PP anyway
As an American who despises the administration and how we’re treating our allies, I agree with you. There’s no point in apologizing or trying to save face or whatever. This country needs to eat bags of dicks until they finally suffer enough to quit doing the same stupid ass shit.
Please stop sending help. Please stop acting like we’re still normal. Until Trump and enough of his supporters get beaten in the face with the consequences of their actions, they will not stop.
We stopped educating everyone with less money than the average middle class. You cannot reason with them because 1) they struggle with logic, and 2) they accept wholesale, without question, the utter lies and propaganda of the monied right-wing. They will simply have to learn the hard way, by suffering.
We don’t want words. We want actions. Use your 2nd amendment.
There’s no lasting change that can be effected by a one person act of terrorism. It takes mass organization, and people will have to be desperate. In this case, it might take civil war.
Hell yeah, break that removed up!
Why don’t YOU do it? Why don’t you travel to the US and use the second amendment? Or hell, just steal a gun and commit an act of random stochastic terrorism like you’re encouraging folks to do. You’re just as capable of any American citizen of this. In the US, guns are easy to acquire if you’re willing to steal them. And the second amendment is entirely irrelevant, as is your nationality and assumed lack of US citizenship, as the law isn’t really relevant in these scenarios. You’re talking about committing some sort of mass shooting against politicians or other political figures. If you’re not walking away from that alive; the law is completely irrelevant for you. You’re just as capable of doing this as any American citizen.
In the end, you’ll be just as dead and have accomplished just as much as the Americans you are encouraging to pointlessly throw their lives away.
What, start violent action against the state? Do you understand what that means? Like, really REALLY understand what that means?
It means your house gets bombed to bits. You die, along with your friends. Civilians die, little children die.
“Use your 2nd amendment” does sound really cool. That’s until you truly understand the consequences of this.
Isn’t the US threatening us with annexation?
Yes it is. But military action hasn’t happened. There’s no intelligence that the US is preparing for something like that. Hence, you asking someone to “use the second amendment”, is you asking someone else to die for you, because you perceive their state to be a threat to you.
Not cool.
Here’s the thing. American citizens had the chance to “fix” (well kinda…better than this crap at least) their issues at the ballot box…they failed…and failed HARD. A 2nd Amendment solution (and I sincerely hope I’m wrong about this) is what you’re likely left with. “Not Cool”…yup I’d say the situation you put yourselves into is pretty “Not cool”.
What’s the point of the 2nd amendment it you refuse to use it.
Go read Howard Zinns book that was mentioned in good will hunting
Yes it’s bloody and people will die, but that’s the price you pay if you let things get to this point.
Remember you are already being killed. You’re being kidnapped from your homes. Your children are being separated from their parents.
What more needs to happen for you to think the 2nd amendment is supposed to be used?
They’re tired of our shit. Either we fucking stand up this election in November or we shut up or preferably both. Even if we fight back against the regime, we’re going to just be the idiots misbehaving again.
“nOt AlL oF uS!” Sure. Too late. We elected a fucking maniac, twice. A third of the population still side with him, another 20% still vote that way.
Anyhow. Your message is kind and as a Seattleite and neighbor, I too sympathize.
Thank you for being one of the blindingly small number of Americans to recognize this.
You’re absolutely correct. These performative “Please tell me I’m a good person” apologies ring hollow. It’s just #notallmen all over again.
I’m sure OP is a lovely person. But we don’t want to hear it. We are not Catholic priests waiting to absolve left-wing Americans of their sins, and quite frankly, we’re too busy shovelling our way out of all your shit to give a damn if any of you are good people or not.
Thank you for saying this. I’m glad that the realization is finally permeating.
Vote when you can. But the chance of a center-left democrat half of the time is nowhere near enough to restore the generational trust lost. People who care deeply must organize, protest, and dismantle these systems so they cannot be used again in the future of coexistence we hope to achieve.
Show us with actions. Stand up for your own people at risk, and for those US expansionist politicians and their sycophants are targeting around the world.
We’ve done it. We’ve tried. Most of the south 30% just doesn’t want to hear it, they’re tricked forever. We’re gerrymandered and rigged and cheated and they’re trying to cheat harder. I’d love to hear what I can do besides what I’ve already done - call, write, vote. What else?

Nobody is riding in on white horses to save the USA from itself.
Your country caused this, it’s up to you to work together with your fellow citizens and fix your own damn country.
The rest of the world will do what we can to protect ourselves from the harms the USA is inflicting on us, and that may weaken the bastards and help you in your efforts, but we’re doing that primarily for our own defence.
Read “The State and Revolution” and then find your local socialist organization to help build mutual aid and alternative infrastructure so we can create a dual-power struggle to replace the gerrymandered rigged cheating bullshit system where your phone calls and letters are ignored. The next time they throw a No Kings parade, instead of marching in a circle and then going home, go talk to one of the organizations with a booth or table set up. If there’s not organizing in your town, then they’re in the nearest big city to you.
You’re not getting out of this by voting every 2-4 years and behaving in an orderly fashion in the in-between.
Organize. Find out how you can hurt red state money and go out and do it. Money is the only thing that they care about protecting.
You haven’t tried very hard.
I’ll be blunt: This is nobody else’s fight but yours. Nobody else needs to help, and nobody else is going to help until you stand up for yourselves first. How hard did people have to try to declare independence from the King of England? How hard did people have to try to end slavery? How hard did people have to try to get women the vote? How hard did people have to try to end segregation? Did you need help with those things? Did you wait for someone else to tell you it had to happen before you acted?
Nobody in the US is mad enough yet. Baffling, perhaps, but true. You’re getting there, but it’s time to start withdrawing from the systems that are oppressing you and starving them of everything you can while building a new more supportive and humane system. Rebuild your local communities and organizations into something capable of fighting back. Stop participating in things that aren’t contributing to that goal. Stop letting your money go to billionaires. They are not your friends, they are not your people, and they are not making things better for any of us. Convenience is not worth the cost. Find more inconvenient ways to live, and that will also make things inconvenient for billionaires and bureaucrats. Buy local. Do business in person, with real people. Reconnect to the world around you. Spend more time touching grass. I know it sounds trite and you might not understand how that is going to change anything, but the beauty is you don’t have to understand it, it has complex systemic effects and it will start to move the needle. Will it move the needle fast enough? I don’t know, I don’t have a crystal ball, I don’t know if the world is going to burn down around us in 20 years. I don’t have all the answers, but I know what has worked in the past, and I know what they don’t want us to do. So I recommend doing that. If the government is becoming unjust, become ungovernable, do everything you can to avoid participating in their systems, maybe it’s too late already I don’t know, but I do know it’s worth trying anyway even if it is too late, there is no better option than to try anyway.
You’re wrong. We haven’t done shit. We just talk about it.
Words will not fix this - written, spoken, or otherwise.
Then what will fix this? Everyone’s so quick to tell me what won’t work. I’d love to hear what will work, and what others are doing that’s effective such that I can multiply those efforts
You’ll figure it out. You’re so close.
I’ll put this in the “vague nonsense” pile
Or the, “it’s better not to record shit for posterity and prying eyes on the internet” category.
Cheers.
While it broods over China’s economic, military and technical advance, the Trump administration is accelerating Beijing’s diplomatic progress, as striking new polling by the Pew Research Center shows. For the first time, China and Xi Jinping are seen more favourably than the US and its president in most of the 36 major countries surveyed – including Canada, Mexico and Australia.
Only in six countries did people rate the US more highly. While Beijing has seen significant improvements in some places, the slump in Washington’s standing is more dramatic. Across 20 countries, the median percentage with a favourable view of China rose from 32% to 46% between 2023 and this year; for the US, it fell from 58% to 36%.
“best country in the world” rhetoric is a paper tiger. Maybe there was a moment, but it’s riding on fumes and inertia downhill. Collapse is a lot less sexy than I had hoped.
They’re tired of our shit? I’m tired of our shit.
As a Canadiain, please stop. Fix your shit. “the majority of us aren’t like this” I don’t buy it. your people voted this clown into office…twice. And before that you voted Bush jr into office…twice. It’s the same song and dance from you.
Stop. Apologizing. I’m tired of seeing americans apologize and then do jack all about it. I don’t want your love, I don’t need it. All we and a good chunk of us Canadians want is for you americans to hopefully, one day, figure it out. not just “get good” for 4 to 8 year stints and then vote in another right-wing nutjob.
We don’t care what you people think. “Oh the Americans are blaming us for something else and slapping another tariff ‘on us’ so what?” We’ve moved on, I suggest you do the same. Now I know how people getting out of a relationship with one person who just won’t “let go” feel.
We would rather you accept that you all collectively fucked up yet again and not try and ask for our forgiveness. again, we don’t care. and stop saying “not all of us” it’s such bullshit.
Just stop talking and do something. Actions speak louder than words, I don’t want nor accept your apology.
As a Canadian I can understand your annoyance, and definitely agree that Americans who feel guilty should take action at home.
However, it’s not like Canada doesn’t vote for idiots too. The country is more or less split between left and right, and the two rich provinces are never on the left. Ontario continues to vote in Fords, and don’t get me started on Alberta. The last federal election easily could have gone conservative too.
Same in Australia, our maga adjacent nut job political party is ascendent. ONP
Le Pen in France, AfD has a lesbian swiss living married to a Sri Lankan immigrant heading a party of traditional values who hate LGBTQI and immigrants. Italy led by a Mussolini apologist, literally can’t make this shit up. Across the channel, Frarage, a grifter, is married to an immigrant leading a party against immigration, all while denying climate change amongst some of the highest temps on records.
in a world that desperately needs to draw closer. together to solve global problems…, have we always been this fucking stupid and I just never noticed, has climate change affected our pre frontal cortex ?
Canada should absolutely be worried about the same cult idiocy running rampant. The thing is that a large part of this worry is intentional USA meddling from the current regime and surrounding groups like the heritage foundation and ATLAS network pushing shit like the convoy, maple maga, and Alberta separatism.
The last one is freaky because it’s what the USA generally does to a country before trying to claim that the people want the oil to be liberated by the USA. Makes the aggressive threats about the smoke even more appalling.
We can’t do as much about our own problems when they are mostly coming from across the border. Hopefully progressives globally can cooperatively figure out how to actively prevent this fascist shit from taking over, or neo-liberal faux progressives from claiming to be the resistance while servings the corruption and oligarchs
To OP personally, you are appreciated and I hope we can all find actions and methods of cooperation that can save us from this spreading cancer.
We may vote for idiots, but we absolutely do not vote into pedophiles, human traffickers, criminals, etc.
Really? Canada has a rich history of doing just that. We just dress it up differently and forget our history instead of learning from it.
Remember Doug Ford?
For one, we’re talking federal.
And two, is he in the epstein files? Did he traffic humans?
What crimes has he been convicted of?
Exactly. I don’t get the holier than thou attitude from my fellow Canadians here. Do they not realize that we almost had PP as our pm?
Exactly instrad of posting here he should be on a highway overpass unfurling a banner that says donlal trump rapes children instead he’s here writing an apology on the internet.
No, he should be writing to his congressman, he should be writing letters to the president, the VP, the secretary of whatever.
He should write to the dickhead ambassador
They dont give a fuck about letters
Kinda depends what your write
I’m holding a bag with $200k USD, and insider information for a publicly traded company that could earn billions. This could be yours if you do this thing for me.
One down, only a few hundred more to go. Might actually be the first time I see action from one of the letters I have written to them every week since trump took office. I am also active with my local government. Still no change. Tell me what should we write and do to a government that doesn’t give a damn about their job unless it comes with cash or saliva?
Write to the president? Lol! Fucker can’t read. Might as well wish on a star.
