If we allow the myth of an “AI” race with China to give Big Tech free rein, we face a more polluted, less equal world.

The easiest way to know it’s not a race is to just look at the EV and solar industries. If the US really didn’t want China “getting ahead,” they would be more heavily invested in that. Instead, automakers are just preparing for bloodshed (and inevitable bailout).

Just one lie? I get a bunch of lies every day from the government. I’m use to them by now.

      Seriously.
Almost EVERYTHING this regime says is a fuckin’ lie. It’s easier to just assume the contrary with these assholes in power.

Article starts off by explaining that there’s no race because China is trying to actually do ai robotics while the usa is trying to do agi and make oligarchs rich. So therefore it’s a lie that we are in an arms race

In reality, that’s dumb as hell, you can try to do all of robotics, agi, cyber and bioweapons, all at once, in addition to making oligarchs rich. Both countries are doing all of the above, but the point is that some of these things have extreme national defense overtones. If all your software is getting hacked all the time, you have no choice but to use AI to protect and debug those systems. But there are many areas where AI will dramatically change the landscape of war: intelligence, pharma, robotics, etc. we don’t need AGI to make those breakthroughs

      +1.

They were both trying to do all at once, albeit with some distinctions.

And an addendum: transformers LLMs are not leading to AGI anyway. That was a lie.

The collapse of the first net is on its way. Soon, we’ll need the blackwall to protect the small, fragmented human nets from the bots outside.

Even if the “AI race with China” is a real thing, they will win, because the state will just do it, damn the consequences.

China won the AI race back in the early 2000s, the moment some dumb fucker said the words “clean coal”, and instead of laughing uproariously at the sheer idiocy, other dumb fuckers nodded sagely.

The tech race in general between the US and China ended decades ago and China won hard. I just wish we could admit that and either try to catch up or at least let us buy their stuff.
