The city of Las Vegas is using the RapidSOS platform to help dispatchers trace emergency callers faster, while Reno dispatchers share how it saves lives.

    That seems actually like a rather intelligent use of AI. Translation, location identification.

    We get promised AI will cure cancer and safe the climate. While not that big of a thing, at least this one saves lifes

      A good use except for the unavoidable hallucinations and errors in a piece of critical infrastructure.

        Did you had a look how this works. Spoiler. Only a small part isn an LLM. Most of it is not.

        Not everything is an LLM. If your car has a line hold assist, most likely, to that is AI. Yes, even the 15 year olds.

        AI != AI

      Gemini can’t tell on from off and you expect it to properly translate drunk tourists, high from random scores thanks to catering to billionaires has killed the economy leading to a severe lack of balance in the city…

      las Vegas is far from ideal for this… Alabama would be.

        I use AI based translation apps since the Ukraine war started and I needed something to communicate with refugees. And no,that is not Gemini, copilot or any other LLM.

        Did I miss something or where does it say Gemini? The there are more kinds of AI then fucking LLMs

        EDIT: and an incomplete or slightly incorrect translation is how worse then no translation at all?

        EDIT2: I currently use this app: https://github.com/niedev/RTranslator

        This app runs models on your phone. And it works like a charm. So, with more power then my phone, bigger models can be used and those get more robust.
