Thats it, thats the post
The saddest thing about New York for me was watching a documentary on 60s-70s music, and seeing footage of all the young boomers in New York joyfully telling reporters that New York is producing a lot or artists because “It’s so cheap to live here, so all us young people are moving in and have all this mkney and free time to create”
Like, fuck, man. The 80s deregulation spree and Trump backed real estate BS fucked New York so hard, you have no idea
How did boomers go from being so creative, free and cool to… yuppies
I just linked a live set by my favorite current band from NY, and ill repost to make sure you see. It’s not all dead

There are a lot of sick punk bands in NYC rn. I’ve been to the undisclosed location on tour myself a while back, its been undisclosed for a while. Didn’t ay an outdoor show but punks were hanging out and we needed to find our whwre to go.
This is a newer band and they are amazing: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=x6mT76JiN8w&pp=

Boston is the second worst. Fuck capital H hardcore.
Yeah I’d agree
Boston had some really sick bands early on, Jerry’s Kids are an all timer
Seconding
Boston fucking sucks
Jerry’s Kids rules. Most the bands on This is Boston Not LA are sick, but its downhill after. Punk in america didnt really fall into step with what the rest of the world was doing until the late 80s aside from a few exceptions. And when yhst did happen hardcore and punk began to split. American punk was a lot more personal angst and a lot less political. Only America could take punk rock and produce youth of today in less than 10 years. There were exceptions, but they were few and a lot formed before hardcore became a thing. There was the Peace Punk scene in so cal and a few bands spread around aside. But it was mostly tuff dudes and teenagers mad at like…society
Not Los Angles?
Could you elaborate?
I do feel the need here to shout out Flower. They’re from New York and one of my favorite bands currently coing rn. There is a LOT of really good punk from New York. Nausea comes to mind pretty quick, there was another contemporary band who eas more obscure and the name is escaping me, theyre damn good and when my friend jogs my memory ill edit.
Flower fucking rules and while i havent personally met them, my friend who toured through and played their in 2019 or so said they were fantastic people and mailed my pal his vest and snuck some…stuff into the pockets as well. Easily my favorite current punk band:
You showed me them a few years ago! Wish they’d do another release
It has been a bit since they put anything out didnt notice until you mentioned. Theyre still playing shows. They sent me a shirt a few months ago. Its my first blue shirt.

I just found out about this band, youll love em.

Why does everyone at that show look like if there was a punk scene in a medieval peasant villages?
Crust and also its late January so WINTEEEER
We’ve always looked like that
I just noticed a weird amount of long shirts and head dresses at this show lol.
I think some of that is just ehat the kids are doing now. I dont get it, but i literally look like a UK squatter punk from 1986 time traveled.

Counterpoint: look at this
Wow, what a piece of art. It gives all the real punks something to make fun of, at least. Doesn’t hold a candle to jud jud
Jud Jud is hilarious tho
Jud Jud are hardcore legends. Im trying to find em online desperately now but there was a Jud Jud cover band that used resl instruments it kinds slapped
Damn that’s bad. And I like soooome tuff guy bands. Firestorm is a sick tune, but the best straightedge band ever will always be 7 Seconds

And my homie gonna help

Homeboy looks like he’s one step removed from being in the video game Brink

Holy shit I remember the hype for that game, that takes me back.
I still remember trying to get into MAG
The online shooter with 64 players in a single match
Was not very good
Know Your Scene was spot on, I saw this guy at every hardcore show in the mid to late 2000s.
Sick Of It All though.
And Vision of Disorder.
(I secretly like a lot of NYHC, but it’s effects were incredibly detrimental)
