those earlier years of this strips art is weird, like the obsession with them all having a cola in their hands
I read the comics section pretty religiously and watching the art change was something I would look for
It made Calvin and Hobbs so much better that its change was very suttle and really only at the begining. Once the characters were established only the added layers would change… and those Sunday full page with the water color art were the best

Probably couldn’t get them to look right in another pose. Lots of artists struggle with drawing hands.
Note how the hands that aren’t holding soda cans are partially or completely hidden.
I miss reading the Sunday comics…
same, it was one of the few childhood memories that is pure and was truly something wonderful
I remember getting so excited about the Sunday Calvin and Hobbs, I still have that last Sunday comic from my local newspaper.
