I mean, if you’re any farther left then it should be. I count it as an insult when I’m called a liberal since it implies I’m a Capitalist as well.
It should be explained that in Germany and France, liberal doesn’t mean what it means in anglo countries. Germans and the French understand “liberal” as “libertarian”. Left-liberalism in German is basically understood as “Libertarian socialism” whereas German sozialliberal (“social liberal”) means social libertarianism such as the positions of most of the German Green Party (though with the influx of young new members it is slowly shifting further left).
Now if you speak of “the liberals” it usually points to the right-libertarian party FDP in Germany. We call the “wirtschaftsliberal” which means “economically liberal”.
So keep in mind that definitions of terms in other political systems can be different.
I agree, considering most of the leftists here exist in an American political context it is easy to just assume at times.

For my understanding: Aren’t Tankies also the ones praising China which is the most major reason why the fascist kremlin regime can wage on with the war against Ukraine? If China and its government really wanted to support peace, they would uphold sanctions as long as Russia attacks Ukraine and has troops in Ukraine, right? This would have also brought in India (maybe a bit forcefully), to also comply with sanctions, which would have crippled Kremlins possibilities to wage war by a lot by now. Obviously and realistically that is nothing what the Chinese governments want. They want to weaken democracies as much as other non-democratic countries (like fascist countries, religious hegemonies or dictatorships etc.). Maybe its worth to not discuss about left or right (which tankies are obviously selling themself as left) but about democracy and human rights? Tankies would therefor argue about the greater good if people would not have personal human rights for “the greater good” of society (in china it’s only a specific [bootlicking] minority of the ruling class?). So the other side of this spectrum would be unconditional individual freedom and rights. Bad faith arguments would want either one or the other but realistically imho, we can have good discussions and decisions, when one wins over the other. With this, i feel, even fake news have it hard to create a bad decision for people thinking about a topic and giving it some time and thoughts.

I’d argue that tankies are doing a bangup job of making Lemmy look unappealing. And in my country at least half of the parties (supposedly) left of the “social democrats” (neoliberals) are tankies, which is actually a huge problem for recruiting new voters for parties that want more worker’s rights, and some of these tankie parties are also literally voting with the extreme right.
