For anyone who doesn’t wanna open reddit-logo it’s the US vs the entire rest of the world. The top comments say the US could hold out, completely ignorant of what US power actually is.

I didn’t even see that. Yes, the US fractures in a month tops. Border cities try to defect to Mexico and Canada en masse and the rump organization of the US military starts a civil war to cling to some form of territorial control. Nukes are the only scenario where the US doesn’t immediately dissolve.

I don’t think this country could survive lines at gas stations, let alone hold out in a war. We’d all kill each other.

This shithole country would roll over immediately because 90% of it couldn’t survive one week without their treats, and that’s my boomer ass take on the matter.

(I’m the 90% in this scenario but also happy to contribute to the rolling over)

Manhattan doesn’t have Theodosian walls. I don’t know what would be the ideal retreat city for a modern war? Denver because of mountains? LA because it’s a large basin with a deep port surrounded by mountains?

That’s are good options, though I think LA would probably be a target early in such a war. I think another option might be Detroit and the surrounding area, protected from most sides by the great lakes, and could be in control of travel over to Canada. There also the possibility that no one bothers to capture Appalachia.

    More like:

    1. Russia, China, and every other country with ballistic missiles that can hit the continental US blow their entire missile arsenal on US urban centers and farmland, completely wiping out US infrastructure and its ability to be food sovereign. The initial devastation and resultant famine kills at least half of the US population.

    2. Every country with a navy goes US carrier hunting, sinking every US carrier and destroying most of the US fleet.

    3. Every foreign US bases gets overrun by the occupied population. Hawaii gets hit with a naval blockade until most of the population has died from starvation.

    4. Canadian and Mexican troops move to occupy parts of the continental US, establishing a northern and southern foothold respectively.

Year 2-9 is FAA building multiple expeditionary forces while destroying the rest of the US fleet and waiting for more Burgerlanders to die from starvation. Eventually, what’s left of the US fleet has to be scuttled as fuel and munitions run out.

Year 10 is the expeditionary forces using the northern and southern footholds as launching pads for the occupation of the continental US. The Caribbean is used as another launching pad to occupy the US starting from Florida. The US by this point is mostly rubble with a few stranglers who haven’t starved to death. Last holdout of Burgerlander resistance is in the Rockies.

In a pure military standoff, maybe the US could withstand it for a year. Outspending the next several militaries combined does offer an initial material advantage. And as we have seen, modern warfare favors the defender.

Several people in the thread assume that the world would attack the US against its strength, ie raw military power. One person thought China would slow-walk vessels across the Atlantic (?) so they could be easily picked off.

The weakness of the US is everything besides military; in other words, the preconditions to use that military advantage. As others have said here, a scenario like this would lead to civil war and disunity, if not immediately, after a few months — and not merely due to social upheaval. Capital flight would be brutal because a billionaire is loyal to no country. They would be out the door before the first bullet is fired. Privatized military secrets would leak like crazy as MIC flees to the adversaries.

All of the financial instability that exists in the US right now, during domestic peacetime, would topple in an all out war.

Furthermore the US is extremely vulnerable to supply chain disruption. They would never keep up in a prolonged conflict against everyone.
