Obvious? Since when scientists give obvious names? It might be “brown-headed mountain snail” or “Dark Hay Devourer of Doom”
Most animals were not named by scientists…

As a Swede, absolutely not, but plenty of animals had their name before him cataloging them. He did give them a schematic name, but few people use the schematic name in daily conversation

May I present to you, the red-winged blackbird, which is easily identifiable as it’s a black bird with red wings.
Wait wait wait, slow down. Can you say that in plain language? None of that science mumble jumbo?
Less obvious is the red-bellied woodpecker of North America, which has a large cowl of red on its head, but is named for the rusty brown-red belly, and should not be confused with the red-headed woodpecker which has a solid red head.
Are they racing?
Those are the endangered Midwestern Giant Whitetail Snail. Such a rare sighting!
