The overall plot involved the main couple of these ugly, beige Muppet-like characters — a husband and heavily pregnant wife — traveling across the world looking for a good place to deliver their baby, but the main scene I remember from the movie was the final scene where the wife actually gives birth. It’s an en caul birth, but the baby clearly looks like a roughly 20 week old fetus, so the midwife (a man, I recall) just holds the baby up and says, “Hmm… No, looks like this one could use some more time.” and violently shoves the fetus right back up the wife-Muppet’s hoo-ha. She screams in extreme pain, freeze frame, credits appear to the sound of applause and sitcom-like end credits music.

This was (at least part of) the dream from my second sleep, since I woke up in the middle of the night. The dream from my first sleep, I believe, involved me going to a concert hall and listening to a performance of a nu metal or butt rock song that went “GIVE IT TO ME! GIVE IT TO ME! GIVE IT–GIVE IT TO ME! GIVE IT TO ME! [METAL SCREAM]” — and I woke up to find that the audiobook of A Farewell to Arms I was listening to as I was falling asleep had reached this part:

spoiler for A Farewell to Arms

“I know it,” Catherine said. “But you shouldn’t say it.” Then “Give it to me. Give it to me.” She clutched hold of the mask and breathed short and deep, pantingly, making the respirator click. Then she gave a long sigh and the doctor reached with his left hand and lifted away the mask. […]

I went out the door and down the hall to the room where Catherine was to be after the baby came. […]

This is from chapter 41, part of the fifth and final book, very close to the end. So I was thinking, “Oh, dear, I’m spoiling myself of the ending, except I don’t really have context for this scene. Childbirth, huh? Neat.”

So then I switched my MP3 player to something else and fell back asleep. In any case, waking up to a description of a childbirth scene in a classic novel must’ve inspired the childbirth dream in my second sleep. There incidentally really is a mid-90s movie called Fetus (A Magzat, 1994), but I’d never heard of it and it’s nothing like the movie from my dream.

There was another scene in my second sleep’s dream in which I was attempting to climb down a spiral staircase in a very tall cylindrical tower, while helicopters shot machine guns at me through the windows. The staircase was made of wooden planks that kept breaking or falling out, it was very Half Life 2 esque. I think this was inspired by The Amazing Digital Circus finale that I saw last night, there’s a scene where Caine is conjuring geometric shapes to build a staircase to a door, except the shapes keep falling.
