Maybe this isn’t the correct community for this question so please correct me.

I am trying to use a lavalier mic with my headphones because the inline mic broke. Can I just insert the TRRS jack from my headphones into a 2 female TRS to male TRRS connecter along with the lav mic? I know the mic sleeve is the last ring so even if it doesn’t go in would that even matter? Is there anything that I should check more about? I’m not too knowledgeable in this regard and would appreciate any help.

The second ring would be bridged to the ground (which is always what the sleeve is for audio stuff), which would disable the inline mic. You’re not using that anyways, so yes, that’s fine.

Yes, that’s why they’re designed that way, to be compatible both ways.

Same goes for mono jacks in stereo socket and vice versa.

The only problem was over 10 years ago when there were two standards of TRRS, with one of the two connections swapped (so maybe the other one was TRSR or something, I don’t remember anymore). So if you used earphones with the other standard, they’d only play sound when you pressed down the button. That thing has been looong abandoned tho, and I think Sony Ericsson was the only major brand using them anyway.

With quality connectors, yes. I’ve found off-band 1/4" -> 1/8" adapters on AliExpress which don’t play nicely with TRRS
