I’m tired of this phrase. It totally does. A statistically significant correlation is very frequently a good candidate for causation, pending other research.

Correlation does not prove causation. But it absolutely implies it, all other things being equal.

“Imply” can mean an indirect suggestion, but it can also mean a logical necessity. Such is language, unfortunately.

Imo mathematical logical notation is a perverse hijacking of actual words. Like in philosophy. Or certain “academic” terms.

Just use the existing words that already have definitions you want. Or if you must use different words, take a random one like “whales” or something. Don’t take the thing that has a definition and then use it to mean its opposite. Eventually that usage will trickle into popular usage and just confuse everyone.

For the most part, I believe they Did take existing words that had the definition they needed, then the common definitions changed over time while the sciences definitions stayed the same. The sciences need strict meanings for words, it’s a bit like legalese where they use outdated words or meanings, but for good reason - so that they know they are talking about the same thing, when common meanings drift all over.

It’s funny because all of his recent ordeals is actually getting him to make more sense (even if it’s by accident). The other day he said something like black people can now identify WITH him now the government is systematically going after him. I can’t remember a former Republican president admit systematic racism is real. The narcissistic wording nearly made me laugh to death.

I didn’t catch the actual quote but headlines gave me the impression he thought they were identifying with him as fellow crime committers. The token black guy in my social circle got all ‘hell naw’ about it too.

Quite a few people here initially thought the same thing. I don’t blame them, it’s not something people expect from Trump or any US president. Remembering that he views himself as innocent helps with getting the gist of his comment.

“There’s a lot of good and a lot of bad with TikTok. But the thing I don’t like is, without TikTok, you can make Facebook bigger. And I consider Facebook to be an enemy of the people, along with the media,” Trump added.

Am I the only one who finds this foreboding?

If this means some of my alt-right, racist, hate-monger, loud-mouth in-laws leave Facebook that would be a good thing. One less platform for them to spread their bullshit and harass people.

The fucking irony lol, considering that Trumps political campaign was the direct link to the Cambridge Analytica scandal and Trump fucking enabled it, alongside having Russian interference in the election LOL

Hi Keith it’s your Mom’s friend Charen (pronounced with a hard Ch) she met at a weird multi-level marketing candle scheme she didn’t realize she was getting trapped into a miserable full length evening advertisement for (I should remember, I hosted it!).

I barely know you but I just wanted to raise awareness for my community Facebook group Leopards4FacesInNeed that connects vulnerable third world children with Christian Leopards.

Also stop smoking pot Keith, it is a SIN and I think talking about it publicly here as a thinly veiled attempt to shame you in a totally out of context fashion is totally appropriate and it’s not like I am going to face any consequences so maybe just log out of facebook and stop checking it for years at a time so you don’t have to deal with people like me. Also have you talked to my son Kevin? I lost him to the terrible woke plague and he won’t talk to me unless I take off my maga hat and I’m afraid to since I think I can hear the sound of the good old days of America playing from within side the hat, it must be a sign from up above (you should hear the tiny angles sing my name) and even my love for my son can’t get in the way of those types of messages!

the portal straight to the depths of Facebook rendered into the raw flesh of reality screeches as it destabilizes and collapses shut 🚪 💥

      The peaceful silence of the night resumes. 🐿️ 🌙 🦨 🦗 🦗 🦉 🌟 💤
