It also depends on the nature of what the artist did. I already own all the Sandman books, so reading them doesn’t further help Neil Gaiman, but I don’t think I’d ever be able to read them again anyway. Other artists whose crimes weren’t as horrible, I might be able to pick up again without greatly degrading my enjoyment of the work (although I can’t think of any authors on my shelf off the top of my head that would apply to)

The Napa Boys. The concept is, what if the movie Sideways had spawned a series of increasingly terrible, raunchy, American Pie style direct-to-video sequels, and this is the fourth movie in the franchise. It’s full of juvenile gross out humor, bad editing, plot points that get introduced out of nowhere or disappear into nothing, and incredibly cheap production values. But on purpose.

It’s a fun concept, and it wrings some genuinely funny moments out of the absurdity. It also has some fun roles for a few comedians I like: David Wain, Paul Rust, Mike Hanford, etc. Ray Wise and DJ Qualls show up in small parts too.

But it’s still sometimes a hard watch; cause even if a bad movie is bad on purpose, that doesn’t inherently make it good. I’d say it’s worth checking out though if the premise intrigues you. Just know what you’re getting into

I doubt those typos are the reason people misremember, but it does show how easy it is to get the name mixed up

I think Jim Parsons would be a great casting choice for Shelderly. He’s older than the guy that played Sheldon in BBT, and he was the voice of the narrator in Young Sheldon, so he already gets the world.

I’ve never seen BBT, but Lauren Lapkus and Brian Posehn are great

That analogy doesn’t apply at all. It’s more like if a chef says, “I don’t particularly care about salads, but here’s a salad I made,” and hands me the most delicious salad I’ve ever had. I would enjoy the hell out of it and not complain that it doesn’t count as a salad because he’s not a salad fan
