Me dumb male, me never use deodorant or perfume before (shower everyday tho). What brand or products should me do to smell good but in a low key way? Or just how to get start on the smell good journey in general. For reference, I live in a hot and humid place and I sweat quite a bit. Thanks you!

I use rose (synthetic) scented deodorant. Avoid antiperspirants, they burn your skin and can swell nodes under your armpits. Use deodorant but make sure it gets to your skin and use it before you sweat. It changes your skin pH to counter the smelly bacteria, it’s not a perfume to put over them. Furthermore, be mindful of how your shampoo smells. Shampoos tend to be the dominant smell of a person. Perfume seldom ever smells hard enough while shampoos do. Don’t buy perfumes based on how they smell after spraying. Spray them on your clothes and skin and leave them. Check how they smell after an hour. The smell on clothes is most important IMO because you mostly spray on your clothes but based on your natural skin pH some perfume might smell much different on your skin. Avoid smells like amber and sthsth-wood. They smell like a pub. I recommend citrusy smells so you smell fresh. I’m very particular about my smells, mind you.

Be very careful about deodorant in general

Several brands (Old Spice, Axe, the ones focused on being manly mainly) are really hard on sensitive skin

In my case, I got chemical burns from more than a few of them

And trust me, there’s little worse than having your armpits basically blister up and flake off like fish food

It’s why I use Dove Men+Care Ultimate, it’s basically the only one besides Arm & Hammer unscented that doesn’t irritate me

48 hour deodorants are guaranteed to burn your skin. It’s not a sensitive skin issue, apparently everyone has it but no one speaks about it and they get insecure about it. I had multiple guy friends who had painful skin burns from antiperspirants and were ashamed but continued out of fear of smelling bad. Mind you it’s an antiperspirant issue and not a deodorant issue. Antiperspirants basically block your ability to sweat which ofc has consequences. So only use deodorants and only 24h ones, avoid 48h, especially 72h. Only spray after washing yourself, they only work to prevent smell, not after it builds up as they change your skin pH to avoid smelly bacteria. Make sure it gets to your skin under the armpit hair.
