Anytime I start to feel slightly good about my future reality comes by to kick me in the nuts
I have not felt happy about anything in my real life in a lasting way for over 20 years now
Absolutely get a second opinion. Dentistry is probably the most scam-ridden profession. I have no respect for dentists whatsoever. Sadly your second opinion will also come from a dentist, so just go with your gut about which seems the least scammy.
The tooth itself literally broke off. X-ray is pretty nasty. I don’t think he would scam me as he previously upgraded a crown he did that he didn’t like the development of to a bridge without charging me.
Yeah, I’ve been dealing with a lot of dental stuff recently and based on that, i don’t think that’s too scammy of a price despite obviously being too damn high and bullshit that people have to come up with money like that for healthcare of any kind.
I have literally spent over $20,000 on dentistry over the years, I say over because I stopped counting a long time ago
If a flight to Mexico is feasible you could look into getting dental done there. Would probably be cheaper and you could squeeze in a short vacation.
i know people that went to costa rica to get dental work for like a 3rd of the price, but that was a few years ago
Dental tourism: go to Costa Rica to save money on dental care, and treat yourself to a vacation while you’re at it.
Did he have some ragtime playing while he performed the operation? this is important
mostly Enya iirc
I went to the dentist once and instead of working on my teeth, he developed my productive forces. then I realized I had accidentally gone to the dengist
Many such cases

Oh? You have a problem with your eyes? Your teeth? Mmm sorry sweaty but your health insurance doesn’t cover that. Dental and vision care are luxury cosmetic procedures. You’ll need to purchase separate insurance for both of them and spend $6000 before we pay $50.
That’s a large enough number that you might want to consider medical tourism. Mexico is a very common option. Back of the envelope math: allegedly the bridge will cost $500 or less in Mexico and flights to CDMX + 1-2 night stay is about $300-400 depending on where you live. I’m assuming US due to using $$$$. If this math can be trusted you could budget around $1000 for it.
Disclaimer: I have not done this personally and recommend doing due diligence (lots of research). I do know people that have gone to CDMX for dental care and are happy with the results. Also this requires a passport. If you don’t have one that will add around $200 to the cost and 1-4 weeks delay for a rush order. You might be able to get a passport faster (as in within a week) if you were to visit a regional passport center and/or use a private expeditor (though you’d also need to do due diligence on the latter and add $200 to the cost. The only reputable one I’m aware of is Allstate). It also depends on your risk tolerance if you’re traveling alone. Core CDMX neighborhoods are pretty safe, esp. when it’s light out, but that’s another thing to plan around.
Anyways I’m hoping this is helpful info rather than stressful. It’s terrible that teeth are treated as luxury bones and not subsidized medical necessities.
My ex-friend was talking about doing that for their fucked up teeth.
Dentists cost so fucking much I hate it
Well…
Time to finally schedule myself for a checkup, I guess. Fuck I hate going to dentists even though the worst I’ve personally had (so far) was a couple cavities. I could hardly handle getting those drilled and filled… if I ever need more serious work I might just walk into the ocean… no offense to OP
Dentists in America are somehow more of a scam, it seems, than the rest of the medical professions.
If Medicare for all ever happens, we all gotta make sure dentistry is lumped under healthcare and stops trying to be special.
my partner went to oaxaca to get an implant after her abscesed tooth had to be pulled. you should look in to it. cheaper than the US for sure. let me know if you want more info.
Thinking on it I’m just gonna get the tooth yanked today and hold off on the bridge until I can get a second opinion
