If we’ve learned anything from this, it’s that you never, ever, in a million years trust state capitalist institutions, this poor man spent two days in jail and was humiliated (his own words) on the global stage over a fuckin clerical error

??? I was literally referring to the Amicus curiae that screwed the man over, so yes my shorthand of “state capitalist institution” is a little more accurate, either way who gives a fuck, everyone fell for it regardless, which is why I linked to penguinz0 who had an outsized impact in popularizing the story and seems to be the only content creator bothering to apologize, I’m not making a value judgement on his dumbass pseudo-libertarian content

Am I outta of pocket or something, why am I getting these snippy-ass replies

Because “state capitalism” is a term that’s kind of important for understanding political-economy and doesn’t refer to liberal capitalist states.

          everyone fell for it regardless

I think many of us do not have a relation to reactor content mills like pz0 and don’t take positions on their dumb clickbait “news” stories.

which is why I linked to penguinz0 who had an outsized impact in popularizing the story

Which is why he shouldn’t be rewarded with more engagement

I’m not making a value judgement on his dumbass pseudo-libertarian content

And yet, like most professions of neutrality, you’re still tacitly supporting him by linking to him in the first place! His business model is engagement, what do you think this is?

“state capitalism” ??? Where are you getting this macro-econ terminology from? I’m talking about a shitty Friends of Court org who messed up this man’s paperwork and landed him in jail, zoom in brother this shit doesn’t require theory

And yet, like most professions of neutrality, you’re still tacitly supporting him by linking to him in the first place! His business model is engagement, what do you think this is?

Sorry, you’ve confused me for somebody who gives a shit about the whole “ethics in online consumption” discourse, I DON’T CARE, he’s already a millionaire and watched by millions, might as well whine about people linking the New York Times

In this case, would it be an adequate equivalent to use an Invidious or Piped instance to link to the video for discussion while minimizing engagement for the creator to profit from, or should the video be downloaded and uploaded to perhaps a PeerTube instance to further disconnect from the original source? Or is there no value in discussing topics such as this, especially if the topic being discussed is viewed through the lens of liberal content mills and/or cause harm to the defamed victims?

I don’t know enough on the topic to distinguish mirrors, but I am pretty sure as concerns the instance rules all of those are fine. In my personal opinion, the answer to your last question is “Yes,” but I also realize that arguing such a thing to someone whose attitude is oriented around personal entitlement (such as OP) is a waste of everyone’s time. Something something Combat Liberalism.

I started to suspect something was fucky when I kept getting recommended various versions of this video for multiple days after it happened. Like the media all designated this guy as the court laughingstock we should laugh at and shame.

The entire time I’m like “Wow driving with a suspended license? How fucking horrible. He shouldn’t go to the store, his job, or court, or the DMV until he resolves that. Good thing our society allows people to take consequence-free breaks from all of those things for the duration of our suspensions”

Eat shit every single judge and clerk in the “justice system” jagoff

Theoretically, won’t he able to sue outlets for libel for portraying him as some dumbass criminal? Or would they defend themselves by saying “well we just reported what the court said. It’s not our fault”

His shit was suspended for not paying child support. I don’t know his situation, but regardless, how the hell do you expect a man to pay for anything without a license lol. We don’t live in a civilized country so most places don’t have efficient public transit. Was he expected to pay like $60 a day for an Uber just to make money and give the rest away? And the child would suffer too if he can’t maintain an income.

Saw the original and thought how much it sucked since the guy probably had medical shit to deal with. Having that on top of some shitty court stuff leading to him just making a crappy choice in the face of only crappy choices to where he got humiliated. This just makes it even worse that they just went public humiliation mode on this dude when they couldn’t even do their own jobs correctly.
