Very little dialectical materialist analysis in this video. The ultimate blame for RoK’s state of affairs can be traced back to its submission as a USAmerican vassal which the commentator avoids for obvious reason (Michael Parenti’s AnythingButClass progressives who highlight “bad” corporations rather than the class system from Blackshirts and Reds)
At worst, this video only manufactures more consent for war by encouraging nihilism over revolution. The problem isn’t “fertility rate”, “traditional image culture”, or “bad corporations” it is capitalism.
Anyone seeking to understand Korea must read Wilfred G. Burchett’s THIS MONSTROUS WAR which was banned by the US from ever seeing distribution in its waters.
Oh yeah completely agree there. The video touches on the fact that family-owned conglomerates run the place and directly benefit from these societal issues, maintaining a system that serves their interests, but doesn’t really pull on that thread to get to the bottom of the problem which, as you say, lies in capitalist relations.
Also the fertility rate crisis thing has been a common orientalist trope in bourgeois media. I’ve only really seen it applied to East and Southeast Asian industrialized nations. Inevitably to bourgeois authors, it either has no solution or leads into Malthusian rabbit holes.

Once again Hexbears doing a great service by providing knowledge forbidden by the evil overlords. Kudos! I’m sure it will be an enlightening read.
