I’ve heard that the middle class doesn’t exist, but I’ve also heard that the rising middle class was necessary for capitalism. Is there a principled definition, because China seems concerned about growing their middle class.
What does it mean to you, I guess?
There are two definitions:
A class analysis, a leftist one.
And a wealth analysis, a liberal one.
The first one does exist, and the others have expanded upon it. The second “does not exist”, it is not a class, it is not about relations to MoP, but an ill defined wealth measure. Liberal politicians are talking about the second one when they use the phrase.
Also as a dog whistle to cater to whites.
