Tinder has rolled out its promised high-end membership, a pricey $499 per month subscription dubbed “Tinder Select,” which includes unique perks like the ability to be seen by more users, including Tinder’s “most sought after profiles,” the ability to direct message others without matching and other VIP-level features.

This could not go wrong in any way at all. Imagine being sued for ignoring abuse reports, and deciding to monetise the abuse itself.

Anyone who DM’s someone without matching will immediately out themselves as someone who paid $500 for Tinder. They will get blocked immediately 90% of the time once people figure out what is going on.

the ability to direct message others without matching

So many thirsty computer touchers that see themselves as “high value males” because of their bank statements and nothing else will demand “transactional” relationships. “I paid my 499 pls respond.”

    • Yo, I crawled around that site to see what was up with it… the most unhinged shit I’ve ever seen. They’re using ai to “guide” the matchmakers decisions… which means they are having a shitty ai set you up, there’s no human involved in this process, no shot! Here’s a few highlights:

      • Pretty sure everyone I see on this site is white… -Mission: To solve the loneliness, marriage, and birthrate crises by creating happy, healthy families. … yo what the fuck? They’re a fucking people mill kennel club!

      • Values: 01 - Humanity is good

We look forward to a future of human flourishing - more artists, more astronauts, more inventors, more Olympians; more childhood dreams from more childhoods. But in much of the world, each generation is lonelier, has married less often, married later, and had fewer children. Most countries worldwide have fallen below the replacement rate, meaning their nations are dwindling. We think people need each other, as individuals and societies, and human flourishing starts with more families. … … 06 - We don’t deny Nature

Humans are the product of millions of years of evolution. Evolutionary biologists have studied the way men and women act when seeking long-term partners. They behave differently. They have different preferences, different communication styles, and different ways of seeking long-term partners. Dating apps completely ignore sex-linked differences and provide unisex experiences. As a result, the way they generate “matches” has helped fuel a culture of short-term flings, rather than marriages. Keeper takes human nature seriously, which makes us more effective at matching people for long-term success.

This is some weird ass conservative cishet breeder psychosis. No material analysis, it’s the apps fault that people are lonely! Also, no options for any gender queer identities or relationships, no mention of us at all. And the dog whistle of not ‘denying nature’ along with it.

Then they’ve got a "calculator that tells you how much of the population is between your selected ages, income, height, isn’t obese, and other shit - with a button that says ‘find people that match these standards’.

And as if that wasn’t enough for these ham sandwich ghouls, they list their investors: Bain Capital Ventures Champion Hill Ventures Sovereign Capital 16+ Angels

Every day I feel more and more like we’re in a simulation.

If you’re a woman making your profile, it’s gonna ask you what color you like your toenails to be painted while you’re barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen

Even more evidence toward my case that when techbros say “human” a lot when peddling something they sound even more dehumanizing. kombucha-disgust

Given the absurd cash incentive I wonder if that’s just an actual scam (well, slightly more of a scam) where they split the 8k to hire someone to be a date.

imagine being a snob on Tinder

I don’t understand these shitty sites/apps. I really, really hope they are just a fad that will completely die out in a couple more years and we can collectively get back to figuring out how to do this shit in a world where third spaces do not even exist anymore.

It’s unfair to even call them “dating apps” as if a majority of the people in those apps even get to go on dates regularly with them. They’re basically cassino slot machines, but with faces instead of symbols, and affection instead of money. Their entire business model is based around either keeping people scrolling or fooling people into paying thinking it’ll help them find somebody. It won’t, not only does it make people look extra desperate, it also creates a negative incentive to helping them find somebody.

If someone is “sought after” and isn’t already in a relationship, there may be a reason they’re still available and it isn’t their looks or their account blurbs. the-more-you-know
