Overall, the deal involves as many as 180 tanks
Any hot war is going to expend that in weeks or less. Laudable perhaps to describe war as insane - but not exactly realistic.
180 tanks in a week? No way.
NATO military doctrine doesn’t require as many tanks has the Soviet doctrine, which Russia is still using, does.
So, what - do you think this is just mismanagement of funds? Possibly to meet the minimum defense spending, I suppose. It could be.
Well it’s the military, so mismanagement of funds is a given. But that’s not what I’m saying.
I’m saying that this number was probably aligned with the rest of NATO already, and that NATO doesn’t expect to lose 180 tanks by driving them single-file on a highway.It’s 180 in that first batch. Contract apparently is for 1,000. With a joint effort of production, so the last batch will be fully assembled in Poland.
It’s only the first lot. They ordered 1000 of them two years ago.
They made the mistake of being underprepared in 1939; they’re not going to make it again.
I think tactical drones are more of an investment in modern warfare. But tanks are cool too.
This reads like a press release for the tank itself.

The Polish had an extremely fine cavalry before WWII. Plenty of troops. They even had some decent tanks. That wasn’t the problem.
The problem was that they didn’t adapt to the changing nature of 20th Century mobile warfare fast enough.
Tanks in Ukraine have a very different role than they did in WWII. Russia used to have the largest stockpile of tanks on the planet. Used to. Not anymore. Were they all used to capture huge tracts of land? Nope. Picked off by mines, artillery, bazookas, and drones in futile assaults.
Poland should be in the news, but for increasingly becoming a far-right state fueled by their weird religious hate.
Poland‘s main problem in WW2 was being attacked by two stronger armies from two sides. Resupply over the Baltic Sea was also not really feasible.
