nerd The definition of fruit is that they bear seeds. It is a biological classification, not a culinary one (like vegetable). Tubers and rhizomes do not bear seeds and are therefore not fruits. You can grow a plant from them, but you can do that with cuttings and those aren’t fruit either. Culinarily, a potato is a vegetable or starch, and still not a fruit.

Apples are my favourite due to consistency and availability. Other fruits are either hit-or-miss, hard to gauge ripeness, unavailable, or expensive. Sure other fruits might taste better but when I grab an apple I know what I’m getting

As a grower of weird apples, that’s my favourite thing about apples - I don’t know what I’m going to get. Some will be tart as hell others remarkably sweet. Even off the same tree.

But sure a supermarket Granny Smith or pink lady is a homogeneous product, you know what a pink lady tastes like in Thailand, Türkiye or Tuvalu.

Hot take: Most fresh fruit is really good so people’s favorite is almost always performative. Like you know the strawberry is only there cause it’s hello kitty core. For me it’s blackberries but that’s probably because I could find them wild where I lived so they have a nostalgia buff

This is so true. My dad is a keen gardener and grows like, a dozen? Different fruits. When the figs are ripe they’re my favourite. When the grapes are ripe, the muscatels are my favourite (the red seedless are pretty good but can’t hold a candle to them). Loquats, in a good year, are my favourite fruit. Likewise plums, raspberries, and mandarins. Genuinely I think my favourite fruit is whatever’s good (and that I like) right now.

There is no fruit tastier than a Georgia peach at the peak of ripeness. And that is objective fact. However, I would not rank peaches as the best fruit because they aren’t that good outside of that 2 week window during summer.

A fruit is neither inherently performance or pure of heart

It is the fruit eater that determines the pureness

You are a very performance person, and it taints all you do, including eating fruit
