This is a pretty good case for the utility of the phrase “Epstein class.” While not as precise as other terms, it’s not as easy to dismiss out of hand because no one is doing anything about these ghouls, at least in the U.S.

I’m not against this terminology at all. Child r*pe has been an integral part of the western ruling class since at least the time of columbus.

If I’m a so called free thinker and I think about an American calling on Americans for something and it’s being labeled anti-America why wouldn’t I consider the idea “anti which part of America?” Then I see the sign rallying against the Epstein class that’s gotta be polarizing and easily legible, right? You have to consider yourself in favor of Epstein and the war in Iran to be against their call. I can sympathize with a Republican talking point like “oh, they don’t want the government to be the only ones with guns, I get that.” Surely a headline like this makes at least one person go “oh, they don’t want to die for Israel because a bunch of [uncool fellows] are bored, I get that” They’ll have their immune system like “oh, today it’s Epstein’s associates then it’s every Fortune 500 CEO then it’s every CEO then it’s me” but you have to be testing that immune system with something like this.

In other words, you can only paint a communist against their audience’s mutual enemy and hand wave it away as anti-American so many times, surely.

I’m more sympathetic to trots than most here but legit I think they just publish them and wave them around. I don’t know if anyone aside from the editors reads them.

      It’s part of the uniform

I’ve always seen it as them trying to look more professional or more serious. Sometimes at protests you’ll get handed these one page flyers that are single spaced and in like size 6 font, which can be off putting for many and can make it seem like the org it’s from is one guy with a printer. Whereas a newspaper carries some amount of officialness to it, (although I don’t think it actually takes much to print a newspaper) which might make it more approachable. But honestly you could probably achieve the same results with a well designed flyer.

The work required to fund, print, distribute, sell and collect the earnings creates an organized structure of communication and logistics completely run by the party. Plus it homogenizes the party line, since usually the members are required to read and discuss it.

(My org isn’t trot btw, we’re currently studying stalinist texts)

Edit: in my experience, the novelty of a young person selling newspapers in the street is enough to attract some other young people haha. It also immediately gives you something to talk about to whoever shows interest, since the articles tend to be varied (women’s struggle, local union stuff, food security etc.) Last time I had a very cool conversation with some homeless guys about it. They asked to keep some copies and later I saw them reading a page and talking about it

Holy shit, I swear I’ve seen this guy before, like, handing out newspapers at my local uni. I’m probably just confusing two different people who have a similar (trot) vibe, but for a moment there I was really confused why a random Australian Trot would be getting interviewed by Fox news in the US.
