Am I misguided to think this is kind of wrong? Like, I’ve seen the videos of the kids dressing up as Jesus and all kinds of other costumes, and raiding these ‘places of worship’. I don’t know enough to say that churches of scientology are categorically evil places with no redeeming qualities whatsoever, I just have trouble thinking they’re so different from established religions.

Scientology is known for physical abuse, blackmail, extreme shunning that separates families, human trafficking, child labor, and forced labor. They’re miles worse than Jehovah’s Witnesses and lightyears worse than Mormons (and that’s no compliment to mormons)

And Mormonism advocated for slavery because black people were supposedly descended from Caine so they deserve such punishment. As far as I know, the Church of Scientology isn’t sitting on top of an entire state ethnically cleansed of its indigenous population.
Scientology is weird and reactionary. They have their share of abusers and grifters. I don’t get why, though, they’re singled out over religious organizations advocating we end the world in a nuclear holocaust because they have their own version of Posadism where it’s angels instead of aliens.
I meant worse as in modern actions, not foundational ideology. I feel like almost all major religious texts have heinous prejudice shit (the bible directly endorses slavery), but the rate/commonality of extreme acts seems particularly bad in Scientology. They don’t just “have their share of abusers and grifters,” they are ALL abusers and grifters by strict mandate of their higher-ups
At gunpoint, I’d choose catholicism over scientology 100% of the time. And I was raised going to catholic church/ sunday school every week, but became an anti-Christian atheist at 10. Obviously catholicism is cult-like with many churches practicing sexual/physical abuse, but scientology is a cult-cult to the highest degree that makes abuse the universal norm
Scientology power is extremely tight and opaque, and they’re so insanely controlling of members that they’re forbidden from taking any and all modern medicine (even life saving), and they’re obligated to aggressively harass/stalk/shun former members or critics. They practically have their own CIA, and you’re abusively disciplined with any discovery of the smallest non-compliance. Mormons shun and control but even they’re not THAT bad

religions are institutions with a fraught history of predation and cruelty. unwinding any positive impact or historical cultural value or community aid is a complex process i won’t pretend to have a plan for.
