Russia’s fuel crisis is so bad that a mom and her baby waited in line for 18 hours to get gas — ‘Are we in the Soviet Union?’

“I was horrified: Are we in the Soviet Union now where you had to get coupons to buy sausage?” Sadovnikova, a 26-year-old who works in social media, told the Times.

    Fortune

26 y/o lol. Every time I see that I do the math in my head. 2026 - 26 = 2000. Never quite make it back to 1991 or before.

We had someone running for city council on a platform of preventing communism because she knew what communism was like since she was adopted by an american family (Romania) in 1995. She is 34 y/o

I was baby when the USSR was kicking around and all I remember from that time is the Berlin wall and some rumors and gossip about nuclear war, maybe, some day. So to be only 34 and be like “uh yeah I lived in the soviet union” is fool shit.

I don’t get it. Is she complaining that the USSR never fully abolished the commodity form and getting sausage required you to make an exchange?

Today I looked up a list of current gas prices in Europe. While most countries were over EUR 2 per litre, Russia was EUR 0.8 something per litre, having the cheapest gas in Europe. It could be that official prices are being kept artificially low by the evil scheming regime while the black market flourishes, it could be the numbers were outdated, it could be the source was simply lying — or it could be that Russia is an oil producing country with an abundance of fossil fuels for the domestic market.

have those prices risen a little bit recently? i could have sworn it was way lower at one point. by comparison, that’s a bit more than $3 per gallon, which is low but not unreasonably low by US standards. obviously nothing about this discounts your comment or makes the OP any less ai-hallucinated but europe always had expensive gas anyway.

Ignoring the fact it’s typical unfalsifable orthodoxy bullshit, why are they even gloating about it? If Russia really become more dependant on China, it means their main enemy became more powerful and Russia itself harder to imperialise.

Gas is somehow fucking 3.50 a gallon near me and I’d still give my left nut if it meant being able to buy a Chinese EV at actual chinese prices. Thanks, Joe Biden, for that 100% tariff! Thanks, highway safety losers, for lying and saying BYD cars are unsafe!

Um…correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t Russia produce fuel? Also is this person saying that Ukraine was selling fuel to Russia until recent worker strikes? Am I misunderstanding this post or is the author extrapolating a lot from the sale of Chinese EVs?

They think that Russia’s oil revenues are dependent on Russian residents fueling their vehicles.
