Check out Yazio. Couple of years back, it was a great tool for T1Ds like myself to get the carbohydrate content of whatever is about to be eaten. Now it’s degenerated to exactly like the OP video. Can’t imagine anyone using it still enjoying the stupid gamification / ‘engagement’ they bolted on.

One of my wife’s siblings was pressuring her whole family to sign up to Temu so they could get some bullshit bonus from then. I strongly recommended my wife not do it, but she felt obligated. So I helped her and we used a temporary email address.

    Temu knew.

It technically let her in, but it was throwing some weird errors. And it wouldn’t let her connect to her sibling’s account. So my wife switched her Temu account to use her regular email (something I STRONGLY discouraged, but again she felt obligated).

Holy shit, the amount of spam she’s gotten. And all so her sibling could claim some bullshit discount on some random cheap shit from China that probably arrived broken.

Temu is one of many companies that destroys my faith in humanity.

Oh, jeez, that’s a terrible story, and I can totally understand why they would destroy your faith in humanity.

Haha, that’s similar to my initial thought, which was that we ended up with this instead of the cool 80s noir cyberpunk.

Jesus, it’s like they brought mobile game brainrot to online shopping. I feel like the only way they could make it worse is by sandwiching it between clips of Family Guy and someone playing Subway Surfer.

The video is edited with capcut (it’s from bytedance) and it puts an unique user id identifier at the end of the video for easier law enforcement time

I’m sure it’s also present in the form of invisible watermarks

Because it actually works on a large number of people, apparently. That FOMO, “I save money by buying discounted stuff, even if I don’t actually need it”, etc.

I had a friend that was ordering stuff from there all the time, falling for those “coupons”, convinced she was so smart because of how cheap it was… I can admit there were a couple cool things she got, but the majority was just useless garbage. And regardless, the few cool things ended up breaking within a couple months at the most, so what was the point of that? Such a waste.

Oh, I totally get that some people go crazy for the savings and gamification aspect, but how can they handle the complete sensory bombardment trying to get you to buy stuff?

Yes, I agree that the waste is very sad.

This was my experience trying to use the site, I eventually gave up.

I was like, can you just piss off and let me buy something?

Good to know, thanks. And I thought that aliexpress was bad, but it doesn’t hold a candle to this (I’ve only seen the website though).

I ordered a bunch of shit from Temu a couple years ago or so. Before we realized how horrible it is.

Cheap shit for cheap money. I knew the quality might be shit but generally the stuff arrived in okay shape. Got a good flashlight, some kitchen stuff, and other small stuff.

I have since deleted the app, long time ago, once I understood how manipulative and predatory it is, and what the operation is like as a whole.

Yeah I never used it. If I bought anything from China it was usually off Aliexpress because it seems less shady and more straight to the point.

Temu definitely felt more and more shady, with these types of “free spin” like discounts. And things really were impossibly cheap for what was offered.

Got some sexy bedroom outfits for the wife out of it though. 😆 Probably cancerous…

Ok but you won’t see me complaining if I hit that $300 spin
