im so tired of these pigs intruding on every aspect of our daily lives just to turn around and tell victims of sexual assault that they deserved it. if a home intruder breaks into your house then they come 3 hours later and beat YOUUU up.

    This is basically how all organized crime and street gangs started: no help from a government, so they have to deal with crimes on their own. It hasn’t been studied as far as I know, but I’d bet money on violent crimes (stemming from people seeking personal revenge) increases after police misconduct and brutality increases.

    There isn’t even an actual “non-emergency” number you can call that I’ve seen folks mention, at least in my city. They end up sending the police anyway.

    I used to live next to this family that would scream and fight every other weekend. Tried talking to them but they got belligerent when confronted. Landlord wouldn’t do shit about it. One night, it sounded like someone was thrown down the stairs and lots of screaming and shouting. Could hear someone threatening personal harm. Called a “non-emergency” number for a wellness check. The first question they asked me is “What race are they?” I was caught off guard by the question and after a few seconds they repeated the question. “Uh, I guess white?” I said. Hung up the phone and literally within 5 minutes there were police knocking on their door, guns drawn. Luckily, nothing escalated. Come to find out the neighbors had a daughter with BPD that refused medication and got violent. I was just tryna make sure everyone was alright and they send dudes with guns blazing ready to empty out entire magazines into a family.

    If you’re talking about in your home here are ways you can become more resilient and less dependent on emergency services:

    • You can take first aid courses and get solid medical supplies at home. Including Narcan supplies.
    • You can take deescalation and intervention trainings.
    • You can buy fake cameras, security company stickers, and ‘beware of dog’ signs.
    • You can improve your locks and strike plates.
    • You can buy motion sensor lights.
    • You can get a home defense weapon of your choosing.
    • You can get to know your neighbors. Some areas even have organized community response options.

    If you’re talking about being Batman then go for the suit with the nipples. More intimidating.

      State organs of any state have allegience to the state first and foremost and in the capitalist state the class represented is the bourgeoisie.

      This is correct, but it doesn’t mean upholding the existing state is their only function. A public school has the same allegiance you’re talking about, and has a state-maintenance function like police have, but they also teach people to read and write. How well they teach people to read and write can be changed without greatly affecting their state-maintenance powers, too.

      I’m not a police abolitionist, and I don’t think that’s a good position for the left to support. It’s too similar to being a public school abolitionist on the grounds that schools also partly function to uphold the existing state. The problem is capitalism, not having some public institution for addressing crime. Police abolition couldn’t be accomplished until some leftist movement already has control over the state, anyway, at which point it would want some institution for addressing crime, including reactionaries organizing to overthrow it. What does that sound like?
