Luigi Mangione has admitted to shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson:
“After years of enduring severe pain from a broken back… I learned UnitedHealth would be holding an investor conference in New York City. I then researched the event online. I observed the annual conference of America’s largest healthcare organization with the stated mission to make the healthcare system better for everyone.
I traveled to New York and emailed UnitedHealthcare with the intent to kill Brian Thompson… I shot Mr. Thompson in the back. I knew what I was doing was illegal.”

Mangione said he learned the exact location of UnitedHealthcare’s conference by emailing the company, posing as an investor with more than $50 billion in capital.
Next time you are in an anti phishing training at work, be sure to share about this cautionary tale to help drive the point home.
I shot Mr. Thompson in the back. I knew what I was doing was illegal.
The alternative draft of “I thought everyone would be cool about this” was removed at the advice of his lawyer
“In his defense, your Honor, most people were pretty cool with this. I’m not sure why you guys are making such a big deal about this.”
I’m sad I really hoped they had nothing against him
Luigi NO!

Any presidential candidate who runs on pardoning Luigi Mangione, I will vote for. I will overlook any other position they have.
Clear self-defense, TBH.
I’m at karaoke night and just sang Nobody Speak by Run the Jewels and on the verse that goes:
Get correct
I can walk into a court while erect
Screaming yes I am guilty motherfucker
I am death
I changed the second line to “I can walk into a court like Luigi”
No way in hell he actually did it then
Not a legal expert but this… doesn’t look good for Mangione? 😞
He isn’t pleading to murder AFAIK, only to stuff that’s not as harshly punished. He and his legal team probably figured out that pleading guilty and giving some kind of non-statement would be better than sticking to his guns and getting himself executed.
How do you not get murder for purposefully shooting someone in the back?
Prosecution probably did a deal because they don’t want it to go to a jury who will probably nullify.
please let this be true 🙏
some other people have posted that there is apparently no plea deal, sorry bud
“How was I supposed to know he would die from that?!”
Gives me llamas with hats vibes
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
Ah. I wasn’t under any impression that he wasn’t gonna get the book thrown at him, but I was (well still am) hoping for a future where he can be free. 😞
I’m not a legal expert, but I read that this could be a ploy to get his state charges dropped because of double jeopardy or something? He might even be able to just get sentenced to 20 years, which, at his age, will mean he still has a life afterwards.
A pretty good life too given how many people look up to him. He could start grifting and selling books and doing talks and whatnot. If he ever struggles to find a job due to the whole “assassinated a CEO” situation, I’m sure there’s enough randos who would be willing to donate to him to fund a reasonable lifestyle.
I’m not familiar with US law, but surely they’d require someone who literally intentionally shot and killed someone to go for parole though? In which case I imagine they’d be quite stringent on what he has to do to get parole eg renounce his views or whatever.
His lawyer said that “Mangione has accepted full responsibility for the death of Brian Thompson”. I think the technicality is that the death penalty was already ruled out, so his lawyers think he can admit the killing now and he’ll get life in prison rather than death sentence, due to double jeopardy laws.

“With today’s guilty plea, Mr. Mangione has accepted full responsibility for the death of Brian Thompson,” Luigi Mangione’s attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo announced outside the courthouse on Friday.
Agnifilo said Mangione has been treated unfairly, and that “he endured years of severe debilitating pain following a broken back while struggling to navigate our healthcare and health insurance systems.”
Mangione is facing a maximum possible sentence of life in prison.
Ok but my recent bit: “my employer has a UHC plan, and Brian Thompson deserved worse” has been crushing it across demographics. So square that circle judge fuddyduddy
But how can that be possible when he was with me for the full 24 hours when the alleged shooting happened? We even went to the toilet together, never left my sight. What a loyal friend.
