Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like her, but that’s because of her views. I’m never okay with misogyny and sexual harassment.
Yeah, I don’t like her for her behaviour, personality, or attitude, nor do I find her visually coherent with all the plastic surgery. And yet none of this are relevant to the actual problems here: Trump sexually harassing her live on-stage to cheers from his audience, and the Daily Mail calling it “flirty”. There’s no reason to make this about Nicki Minaj when she’s not the problem here.
Like, what’s the goal on focusing on how unattractive you may find her? To show that you disagree with Trump? The implication of that is that the sexual harassment should have been better targeted not that it should not have happened, been cheered over, or been reported as “flirty”.

When someone posts Daily Mail, it’s worth reminding that regardless of the truth of the article, the source is absolute shit. They breathlessly report every little thing like it’s the end of the world, and ignore the real issues. It’s a distraction.

Lemmy does have a serious misogynist problem. It’s a male dominated space with a lot of users from other, already misogynistic places, which creates a heavy concentration of it.
A lot of the misogyny isn’t acted upon, either, because mods and admins here sometimes share the same views. It’s no wonder women don’t feel comfortable here. The few that do stay, such as Velma, have to constantly battle misogyny. It’s fucking gross.

They’re ignorant. Its hard to wrap your head around without going to college or having an educated person leading. no one grew up with it being an okay thing to talk about, and they’ve fucked the last decades generation of men’s heads hard-core.
I don’t go looking for misogyny any more than I go looking for offense in general, but the thing I see in discussions about age and sex is the notion that women have no agency if an older and/or rich man comes on to them. They’re talked about like helpless little puppies that have to be kept in the yard or they’ll get run over.

France is not the US. The US frequently kills protestors, even peaceful ones, and has literally bombed entire city blocks in the past. That’s not to mention the vast legal, demographic, and geographic differences.

No let’s look at Texas - The capital is Austin, which is more central North/South, and similarly offset east/west, aka it’s slightly closer to the center of the landmass vs Paris. If you live in the furthest away large city, Amarillo, it is 8 hours by car or 19 hours by public transit. A city bus to the transit station, then 3 different city to city buses to get to Austin. The cost is $200-250 each way. By the time you get to Austin, you need to call your boss and let them know you won’t be in on Monday, and that’s if you turn around and leave immediately.

It’s just unfortunate that most likely most of those in the US who do have guns are also Trump supporters, or at least I imagine that to be true.
