My weekly preamble is in spoiler tags below.
preamble
We remain at a precipice in the Middle East, with the return of US strikes expected just after the midterm elections finish on November 3rd - perhaps even as soon as November 4th. With American military might substantially diminished from earlier in the year, there’s been a ton of speculation in various corners of the internet about what they could possibly be planning that would produce results worth the sacrifice of Iran’s massive retaliation expected in response. These theories, once limited to MOABs and another attempt at a broad assassination campaign against IRGC officials, now include the possibility of outright nuclear strikes on Iran, in order to try and penetrate Iranian underground facilities which have proved impervious to conventional weaponry (and are also very probably impervious to nuclear weaponry from what I’ve read, though I am far from an expert), and also to try and degrade the up-to-this-point steadfast resistance that the Iranians have put up since the war began.
Efforts by some in the Trump administration to engage in diplomacy are embarrassingly transparent; both the US and Iran know (and know that the other knows) that it’s just meaningless theater in preparation for further conflict. If a nuclear strike on Iran is indeed carried out - which I currently think is quite unlikely, but still the likeliest it’s been since February - then the reactions of other nuclear-armed countries around the world to the breaking of the nuclear taboo are difficult to predict; as is whether the US would receive meaningful economic/political/diplomatic consequences from countries with the power to deliver those consequences, most notably China and Russia.
My personal expectation is that the US will start hitting some Iranian refineries and power stations and conduct impressive-but-ineffectual strikes on Pickaxe Mountain. Iran, meanwhile, has planned to strike US and Zionist economic interests across the whole region, military bases outside of the region (namely, those in eastern Europe), and even suggested that they’ll cut the undersea cables feeding into the Persian Gulf. A preemptive strike by Iran now also seems to be a strong possibility, as they have hopefully gotten over their anxiety of being seen as an aggressor in the court of international opinion. The West’s ability to repel these potential strikes is now a shadow of even its limited ability in February, with many radars destroyed and interceptor stockpiles unable to be restored quickly due to American industrial bottlenecks. Iran’s leverage is now the highest it’s ever been as global oil and LNG buffers are very much drained. Pakistan, Turkiye, and Saudi Arabia recently sent various officials to Iran to discuss regional security (image above), a telling indication of the growing recognition that the future of West Asia relies on a security arrangement outside of the West’s dictum, but it seems unlikely to be a significant event in the short-term.
The protests continue throughout Europe, with every major country seeing a share of riot police facing down people angry at the economic hardship and the lack of even a gesture towards conditions changing; the neoliberal rot has set in far, far too deep for even the most tepid of reforms at this stage. Poland has been the latest political battleground - I won’t pretend to fully understand the situation after just some cursory reading, but it’s essentially an battle between pro-EU liberals and not-so-pro-EU conservatives calling each other totalitarian dictators after the former started off a constitutional crisis by remaking the Constitutional Tribunal.
Over in the US, tech stocks (most notably Intel’s) faced carnage mostly due to the ongoing lack of profitability of AI and the enormous amounts of debt that is accumulating to support the ever-increasing lack of revenue. This market plunge follows the one earlier in October in Asian (especially South Korean) markets; Michael Roberts has had great coverage of these dynamics over the last year, so I won’t go too far into it here. There’s also been a variety of interesting contingencies and warnings, such as that the electrical grid may be critically vulnerable and that US military bases should be able to last for at least 90 days off the grid in the event of war. The combination of the fact that NATO ran a nuclear exercise period in mid-October and all the myriad internet PHP vulnerabilities that are being discovered and hurriedly patched explains a great deal of the ominous warnings and preparations that we’ve been seeing, but there’s been some intriguing speculation whether Iran has figured out some major vulnerabilities in the US and might exploit them if the US strikes their own power grid.

More than 90 percent of the 152 delegates voted to open coalition negotiations with the Greens and SPD on the basis of the exploratory paper that the three parties had drawn up beforehand. The paper provides for massive cuts to the state budget, announcing, for example, that social service providers should “limit spending growth.” By contrast, there is to be more money for the police. All the slight improvements with which the parties are publicly promoting the coalition are subject to financing reservations.
The exploratory paper also contains a “joint statement” that invokes Israel’s right to exist. It announces bans on pro-Palestinian activists at Berlin universities and commits to strengthening “the police and the Office for the Protection of the Constitution [the secret service] in their mission to protect Jewish life in Berlin”—a euphemistic formulation for the police suppression of any opposition to the genocide in Gaza.

Gem of a quote from an article about new US anti-drone efforts:
Though the U.S. downed 80 drones, many fighters quickly exhausted their air-to-air missiles. Three F-15E crews even attempted—unsuccessfully—to drop laser-guided JDAM bombs on drones.
The rest of the article is kinda interesting as well, apparently they’ve started using laser guided rockets (with proximity fuses that were originally supposed to go to Ukraine!) in an anti-drone role. Only really works on the slow ones but it’s much cheaper than an air to air missile.
Before collapsing, the financial institution drained Paraguayan taxpayers’ resources to fund propaganda for far-right Latin American criminals at the Mar-a-Lago resort, owned by the US president, in Palm Beach, Florida.
Ueno Bank, a financial institution that was intervened by the Central Bank of Paraguay on Tuesday (3) due to insolvency and left around 3 million clients without access to their savings, was among the main sponsors of an international right-wing gala at the Mar-a-Lago resort, owned by Donald Trump, in Palm Beach, Florida. At the event, held on February 10, former congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro presented an award to “Argentine political consultant” Fernando Cerimedo.
Article
The Hispanic Prosperity Gala was organized by the Latino Wall Street platform, with the participation of Spanish businessman Javier Negre, owner of the website La Derecha Diario, among the organizers. On February 3rd, Latino Wall Street itself announced on social media that Ueno Bank would be the official benefactor of the evening, describing it as the first 100% digital bank in Paraguay.
According to the Paraguayan newspaper ABC Color, the institution was among the six main sponsors in the highest category, Diamond, whose announced value was US$100,000 (more than R$550,000). Photos show Eduardo in front of a panel with the bank’s logo.
At the ceremony, Cerimedo, known in Brazil for spreading baseless accusations against electronic voting machines in 2022 and who is quite close to the Bolsonaro family, received the title of “Hispanic political consultant of the year.” Argentine President Javier Milei was also honored via video. Six months later, Cerimedo was arrested in Bolivia, accused of ordering the shooting death of his pregnant partner and lawyer, Nadia Beller, on August 17th.
Ueno is linked to the Vázquez Group and was authorized to operate as a bank in 2023, during the government of Santiago Peña. The then-president held 1.58% of the holding company and sold his shares in March 2025, according to ABC Color. After being authorized, Ueno began receiving deposits from the Social Security Institute (IPS), which manages the pensions of most Paraguayan workers. According to official reports cited by the newspaper, until March 2026, the IPS maintained more than 10% of its deposits in the bank, exceeding the legal limit. Only after being notified did it reduce its exposure to 9.7%. The IPS was the institution’s main depositor and has already filed a lawsuit with the Central Bank to try to recover the funds.
The house of cards finally collapsed when the regulator found that Ueno’s solvency index had plummeted to less than half the minimum required. The president of the Central Bank, Carlos Carvallo, announced his resignation on the same day as the intervention. The Chamber of Deputies unanimously approved the continuation of the impeachment process against Peña, who resigned on Thursday (5), before being removed from office. Congress is deciding the future of the former president.
What is documented is the convergence of two facts: a bank that managed significant volumes of public funds, in proportions exceeding the legal limit, appeared as a leading sponsor of an international far-right event abroad, months before collapsing. For the millions of Paraguayans who today cannot access their accounts, the symbolism is palpable.
However, it remains unclear whether the sponsorship money came directly from retirees’ funds or other public funds, and how much was actually paid, since the US$100,000 figure is the amount announced for the sponsorship category. Questions also remain about the links between the bank and Cerimedo and Negre’s network, which depend on investigations by Paraguayan authorities and ongoing inquiries. Despite repeated attempts to contact them, Ueno Bank and the gala organizers had not yet responded by the time this article was published.
Protests in France brought together 250,000 people - Prensa Latina
Article
Paris, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) Some 250,000 people participated in Saturday’s marches to demand an end to the high cost of living; at least 360 of them were arrested by the police, TFI reported.
The Interior Ministry estimated that 146,000 people were involved in the demonstrations across France.
The protests spread this time to the cities of Marseille, Lyon, Nantes, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Grenoble and Dijon, where clashes with riot police and tensions were reported, according to the television channel BFMTV.
The Parisian parade between Place de la République and Place de la Nation initially proceeded without major disruptions, but incidents occurred at the end of the march.
Police subjected nearly 40,000 people to preventive checks on roads and at stations.
The security operation mobilized approximately 70,000 police officers and gendarmes, 25 armored vehicles from the Gendarmerie and 15 water cannon trucks, as well as helicopters and drones.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Ball and Azelma Sigaux, members of the Yellow Vest Coordination, were arrested in front of the National Assembly (lower house).
Both groups attempted to organize a rally in the central Place de la Concorde, despite the Paris police prefecture’s ban on protests in that area. Nearly a hundred students tried to stage a sit-in in the square, under police surveillance.
Lula’s electoral success highlighted as beneficial to BRICS and the Global South - Prensa Latina
Article
Brasilia, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) The electoral victory of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will contribute to strengthening the BRICS and expanding the articulation of the Global South, highlighted today the Presidential Advisor for International Affairs, Celso Amorim.
In an interview with the television channel of the Brasil 247 website, the diplomat considered that the continuity of Lula’s leadership opens new perspectives for South American cooperation and the construction of a multipolar international order, with greater participation of developing nations.
Amorim acknowledged that the expansion of the BRICS introduces difficulties for internal coordination, due to the diversity of interests and realities of its members. However, he argued that there is a growing concern among countries in the Global South to organize and act together.
He attributed to Brazil in that scenario a natural position of momentum and leadership, supported by its ability to maintain diplomatic relations with major powers without giving up its autonomy. According to the presidential advisor, Brazilian diplomacy has the conditions to engage in dialogue and contribute to areas of cooperation.
He also advocated the development of multilateral mechanisms to address international conflicts and rejected policies of subordination to external interests. According to Amorim, the defense of peace, the self-determination of peoples and the rejection of the use of force should guide Brazil’s actions.
Regarding South America, he warned about the risks of militarization and foreign initiatives that could open the door to interventionist practices. He stated that the fight against organized crime should be based on police and intelligence cooperation between the countries of the region.
Furthermore, Amorim addressed the technological challenges and the need to establish regulatory mechanisms for large digital platforms, as well as ensuring that the development of artificial intelligence respects national sovereignty and human rights.
He linked that discussion to the need to prevent strategic decisions about technologies and data from being exclusively in the hands of large corporations, to the detriment of the interests of societies and states.
Young people from Ecuador lead march against Noboa’s government - Prensa Latina
Article
Quito, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) Young people, students, representatives of social and political organizations and kidney patients led a march today in the Ecuadorian capital against the government of Daniel Noboa and in defense of health, education and justice.
The mobilization started from La Alameda park, advanced past the Constitutional Court and the Attorney General’s Office and reached the Council of Higher Education (CES), where the students demanded an adequate budget for universities and guarantees for access to public education.
Under the slogan “Out with Noboa, out!”, the protesters marched through the north-central part of the capital, despite the rain and the cold of Quito, with banners bearing messages such as “Stop the persecution”.
With that message, the attendees demanded freedom for Luisa González, the former presidential candidate and leader of the Citizen Revolution movement (opposition) arrested on October 22 and held in a penitentiary in the province of Chimborazo.
Throughout the march, participants questioned government policies and expressed their discontent with the resources allocated to education, the state of the healthcare system, the lack of formal employment, and what they consider a criminalization of social protest.
At the forefront were kidney patients, whose spokesperson, Kevin Valdez, stated that the lack of supplies for dialysis treatments persists and warned that this situation puts lives at risk. One of the participants stated that she decided to take to the streets this Saturday “because of the injustice of the Government, which does not work for the people, but for the group of millionaires.”

Lula mobilizes digital supporters against disinformation - Prensa Latina
Article
Brasilia, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva today called on his followers on social media to remain mobilized against disinformation and confirmed a live broadcast on YouTube from Türkiye with Congressman André Janones.
In a message sent to the Lula Army WhatsApp channel and posted on his X account, the president asked his supporters to remain vigilant to combat the spread of fake news on the Internet.
“I want to tell my soldiers, my general (Jarones), that the troops must be prepared to not allow our enemies to continue lying in this country,” the head of state said.
He stressed that repeating the truth allows lies to be dismantled and maintained that no paid funding or promotion can permanently override the facts.
This channel, coordinated by Janones, a legislator from the Rede Sustentabilidade Green party, has more than 10 million subscribers and gained prominence during the 2026 presidential campaign, especially in the second round of elections on October 25.
Lula specified that he will travel to Turkey on November 9 to participate in the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31), based in Antalya, and that Janones will accompany him to broadcast live from that country.
This initiative, as reported by media outlets such as the Brasil 247 portal, is part of a strategy to expand presidential communication through digital platforms and establish a more direct contact with the population.
During a joint broadcast known as Live of the Victory two days ago, Lula invited the legislator to accompany him on his international trips to Turkey and the Philippines.
On that occasion, the president described the initiative as a traveling army around the world and announced his intention to use digital networks more frequently to engage directly with citizens.
“I’m not going to wait for the new government. I’m going to start working on that now,” he said, referring to the changes he intends to introduce in his communications policy.
After his participation in COP31, Lula will travel to the Philippines for a state visit and to attend a meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

CW: mass shooting
At least six dead, 16 injured as ‘far-right’ gunman terrorizes historic Polish city
The suspect was shot by police after a gunfire spree in Kraków that caused shock in Poland and abroad
Currently it’s around 10 dead including shooters family. I think I wouldn’t even be posting if this wasn’t like 4th nazi-vibed attack in the last 3 months. Last time there was this much nazi aligned activity was in mid 2010s or 90s, difference being this time it’s not football hooligans or skinheads streetfighting and beating unhoused people, but kids and young adults being groomed by state and pedowaffen to launch terror attacks. It feels like modern current of fascism is finally showing up it’s ugly head here in practice. And funnily TVP decided to mention Zelenskys condolences - for around 3 years there was a nazi org recruiting kids, with all the aesthetics of modern alt-right (think anime girls) and was headed by a polish person trained by right sector in 2022 :v
edit: I forgot to mention that shooter drove 2 hours to Cracow after killing his family.

Six people were killed and 16 injured during a mass shooting on Saturday in the historic heart of the southern Polish city of Kraków by a gunman who officials said was fascinated by far-right ideology.
The suspect drove a black Subaru into the city’s Main Market Square, a tourist hotspot that draws visitors from around the world, at around 3 p.m. and opened fire at random people from his vehicle, regional police said in a statement on X.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk said drone footage also appeared to show three dead people at the suspect’s home, including two women and a man believed to be his close family members. He cautioned that those deaths had yet to be confirmed.
Police said the gunman, a 25-year-old Polish national, was shot by officers during an exchange of fire and taken to a hospital, where he underwent surgery.
‘Fascinated by far-right ideologies’
Speaking at a news conference in Kraków, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said it appeared the attacker “held very, very radical views” and was “fascinated by far-right ideologies.”
“Police have no grounds to conclude that more than one person was responsible for this terrible massacre. It appears there was only one attacker,” he added.
Foreign nationals among victims
Kierwiński said four of the six people killed in Kraków’s Main Market Square had been identified, including one foreign national. The dead included four women and two men, while five foreigners were among the injured.
Portugal’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that a Portuguese woman was among those wounded, but the nationalities of the other foreign casualties were not immediately disclosed.
A police spokesperson told reporters that the suspect had been wearing military-style clothing, adding: “During the arrest, officers used their weapons, but the man returned fire.”
Video footage showed the attacker continuing to shoot at police even after falling to the ground during an exchange of fire.
Regional police spokesperson Katarzyna Cisło said the suspect was carrying a long, military-style gun, possibly an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.
Police found a large number of other firearms and ammunition in his vehicle, she added.
‘Everyone started running in all directions’
Filip Włodarz, who witnessed the shooting, told private broadcaster Polsat News that he initially mistook the gunfire for fireworks before people began fleeing in all directions.
“We were walking through the square near a bar when suddenly shots rang out,” he said. “I thought they were fireworks. Suddenly, everyone started running in all directions.”
Włodarz said he and a friend sought shelter inside a bar, from where they saw the attacker firing at people from his vehicle.
Another witness, former police negotiator Marek Szczepański, told state broadcaster TVP Info that he heard several gunshots before seeing the attacker running among people fleeing the square.
Szczepański said he shouted at people to take cover before seeking shelter inside a tram.
“But it turned out that a bullet struck the tram. It pierced a window next to the driver,” he told TVP Info.
Kraków residents told to seek shelter
Tusk announced that Poland would observe two days of national mourning on Sunday and Monday following the shooting.
As condolences poured in from foreign leaders, Polish President Karol Nawrocki wrote on X: “My thoughts are with the victims, those injured and their families.”
He added: "I remain in contact with the relevant authorities and expect a full explanation of the circumstances surrounding these dramatic events.”
‘Shocking crime’
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the shooting, describing it as “a shocking crime,” writing on X: “Ukraine stands in solidarity with Poland and the Polish people.”
Public shootings are rare in Poland, where gun ownership is tightly regulated.
However, the country was shaken by a series of knife attacks at schools last month that left one person dead and 14 injured, prompting authorities to step up security at educational institutions nationwide.

Australian toilet paper company ‘Who Gives A Crap’ confirms customer data exposed in software breach
In a statement released by WGAC on Saturday, Chief Executive Simon Griffiths said they had been informed of the breach 24 hours earlier, on Friday.
“Some of our customers’ personal information was accessed without authorisation in a security incident at one of our marketing software providers” said Mr Griffiths.
According to the statement, systems holding information from its Australian, UK and US stores have been breached.
The direct-to-consumer brand said the access began on 30 October, was identified on 31 October and was secured on 1 November.
The data included customers’ first and last names, email addresses, phone numbers, mailing addresses and the total amount spent with the company.
Payment details, order details and passwords were not involved, Mr Griffiths said, and the company had “no evidence of misuse so far”.
He said customers’ Who Gives A Crap accounts were not directly accessed and “remain secure”.
Maybe you shouldn’t send all that info to a third party on the other side of the planet
Gunman ‘fascinated by far-right’ kills six in Krakow, Poland
Article
Six people were killed and at least 15 wounded Saturday when a gunman opened fire in the landmark historic centre of Poland’s city of Krakow, the country’s deadliest shooting in decades.
Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski said the gunman appeared to be “fascinated by far-right ideologies”.
Five foreigners were among wounded hospitalised victims of the shooting and “one person, a foreign national” among the killed, he added.
The man – a Polish citizen born in 2002 – drove a car onto Krakow’s Main Market Square and began shooting at random people, said police.
Officers shot and wounded a suspect, they added.
“The death toll now stands at six: four women and two men,” the police said on X. Over a dozen others – including police officers – were wounded.
An AFP reporter at the scene saw ambulances and multiple police cars as police cordoned off the area – one of Poland’s landmark tourist hotspots popular with locals and foreign visitors.
The gunman shot by police and was taken to hospital for treatment, regional police said.
“Everything suggests that the perpetrator held very, very radical views. A number of weapons were found in the car he was driving,” Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski said.
“Everything suggests that he was fascinated by far-right ideologies” and held “ultra-nationalist views,” he added.
The man was wearing military-style clothing at the time of the attack, said Kierwinski.
Andrzej Fijołek, spokesman for the chief of police, said the attacker had used a semi-automatic rifle similar to the American AR-15.
In his car, police officers discovered “a large quantity of ammunition”, Krakow police spokeswoman Katarzyna Cislo told private broadcaster TVN24.
The authorities have not yet disclosed the nationalities of the victims of the attack, Poland’s deadliest shooting since the fall of communism in 1989.
Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who headed to Krakow following the attack, called it “a tragic shooting” and said the police were investigating all the circumstances.
“Our highest praise goes to the heroic police officers who risked their lives in the line of duty,” Tusk said.
On Saturday evening, AFP reporters saw the usually bustling Main Market Square sealed off, with heavily armed police and forensic investigators inspecting the site of the attack.
Witnesses told AFP they saw people take refuge in shops and restaurants in the streets around the Main Market Square.
“I saw a man shooting at people and walking around the square,” Annette, a woman in her sixties, told AFP.
“It’s a tragedy for Krakow, we’ve never seen anything like this before,” she added.
“We were at Auschwitz today. And it was only when we got here that we realised what had happened,” Stella, a 22-year-old tourist from Rennes, northwest France, told AFP, referring to the Nazi German Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp near Krakow.
“It’s very frightening to think that there are still risks in Europe – risks of a terrorist nature,” she told AFP.
Deadly shootings are extremely rare in Poland, a European Union and NATO member of 38 million people.
But the country has been on high alert following a series of stabbings in October, which Tusk denounced as a “cult of violence”.
Warsaw, a staunch ally of Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, has repeatedly warned of Russian sabotage and hybrid warfare on Polish soil, accusations rejected by Moscow.
Poland is also seeing a sharp rise in the number of firearms licences. In 2025, more than 50,000 new licences were issued, bringing the total to 411,000, according to police figures.
The historic city of Krakow in southern Poland was once the country’s capital and attracts millions of tourists every year.
In 2025, it was visited by 16.2 million people, the city said.
Poland’s conservative-nationalist president Karol Nawrocki said on X he was awaiting “a full explanation of the circumstances surrounding these dramatic events”.
“The safety of Poles is an absolute priority,” he added.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky offered his condolences, saying that “Ukraine stands in solidarity with Poland and the Polish people. People have the right to safety.”
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on X that “Germany stands shoulder to shoulder with Poland as a friend and partner during these difficult times.”
The EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, described the shooting as “a tragedy that will be felt far beyond Poland”.
US Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose, posting on X, said: “America stands with Poland at this dark hour as Poland stands with her beloved citizens of Krakow.”
