How much “exploring” do sedentary lifeforms (plants, mussels, etc) really get up to?

3·12 hours agoI think they mean people who say they don’t want to date anyone.
“I’m working on myself.”
That’s ascribing human motivations to non-humans. They could be fundamentally non-curious, only using their relative intelligence to solve actual problems in their environment rather than pushing for “what if?”.

The joke is that quantum mechanics are difficult to understand, so the commenter doubts their ability to properly explain it (to women). The replier assumed it was a dig at women’s intelligence, not a reflection of the original commenter’s intelligence and ability to explain.
I.e. a stupid person would have difficulty explaining anything to women.
I…what?
In your mind, what happened to the rest of my comment that preceded the literal final line you quoted?

8·6 days agoAnd European countries usually have some form of mass transit that would aid protestors in getting to the capitol. The most populous US cities are not the political center of the country and don’t have cheap access to them. An Amtrak ticket from NY to DC is like $130 minimum and can barely hold a normal day’s amount of commuters, let alone an influx of mass protestors. And the Amtrak NE Corridor is some of the best interstate public transit the US has.
What do work hours of people not in the farming industry have to do with the raw costs of food?
The “cost of food” has been abstracted from the “amount people have to pay downstream to afford food” by companies’ desire for profit. One guy can manage acres of land with a few good machines. Food is cheap: that is why people can afford to ship it around the world to be processed in one country and then sold across the ocean in another country. We don’t have to work as many hours as we do to sustain ourselves to the level they did back then. Industrialists have just countered work efficiency improvements with…more work.
They mean “do an extrajudicial murder instead of handing down a death sentence to someone in court.”
If, in executing some villain, you are going to die on the jury anyway, just murder whoever you think should die and bet that 12 other people won’t think you’re worth a 13-way murder suicide.
“May contain leeches”? It’s landlord meat: it is leeches.
Babe Ruth?
You really have to press your advantage to prevent them from thinking about that

3·11 days ago“Stop leaving me ‘unread’” isn’t even a grammatically correct sentence. Instead of thinking it was something they weren’t aware of, they assumed the writer was both spelling things wrong and using poor grammar, in lieu of any evidence.
I don’t get that opinion. It’s a place where you, depending on what you pay for, get to eat and drink as much as you like, while reading in the sun. Sometimes you even stop in ports and find other cool places to visit later. If you can’t ignore the other passengers, then you need a higher level in Ignore.

33·13 days agoFirst, Epic, now Oracle.
I’m never gonna get another job in software, am I?
Edit: I physically let out a cry of pain after reading possibly 10,000 engineers of varying seniority had been fired (incident was reported on LinkedIn and judged based on the dip in Oracle’s internal Slack membership count).
Yeah, I should just start trying to move into a new field, huh.

I was flummoxed for a while because it sounds like this isn’t even related to what I was saying. Until it clicked that it wasn’t.
I only said to be wary of anthropomorphizing non-human creatures. Saying all life explores is assigning the human definition of “going out and charting the uncharted” to all of the exploration that any creature that actually explores does. Other interstellar species could go into space for perfectly practical reasons, like their planet is dying or it’s over capacity and they don’t want to cull their population. Assigning “human wanderlust” as a facet of all (intelligent) life isn’t correct.
