just because i listened to a single track from the Elden Ring soundtrack does not mean I’d like 200 ‘ELDEN RING LORE’ videos shoved in my face. None of them even have <10k views - they’re all like less than 1,000 views.
stop recommending ‘AI voice dubs this song’ videos that also have <10k views jesus christ, I don’t want to hear a shitty version of Frank Sinatra singing the End of Evangelion song.
oh wow I looked up a very specific Frasier clip two months ago?? Thanks for recommending nothing but Frasier videos since that I haven’t watched. God forbid I watch a single Jerma clip or I will be inundated with “Jerma talks chat through making thermite” videos for half a year.
To make matters worse, you hit “don’t recommend this video I don’t like this video” and two days later, the very same video pops up again. I’ve now resorted to just “don’t ever recommend this channel to me again” even for small <10k views videos because that seems to be the only way to permanently prevent the same video from showing up at a later date.
it’s so fucked, just completely non-functional
the worst thing is when you’ve asked to “never recommend this channel” and then the algorithm goes “ah my mistake here’s the 270 REUPLOAD channels for that channel” and then you nuke all of them but “you watched a video that mentioned the first channel here’s all that channel’s videos again”
you’re telling me all my work is for nothing?? I might as well just make a new youtube account every three months.
it’s a continuous struggle
never let youtube think it’s winning
sometimes I nuke enough channels that it runs out and the front page goes down to zero-two videos (invariably one of them in a random language I’ve never typed a single word in)

the jerma shit is insane, it got so bad that I just started doing “don’t recommend this channel” to anyone who mentions jerma, fuck you youtube, I don’t know anything about jerma and I never will
You haven’t heard of the infamous Germa 66? Mercenaries of the underworld, commanded by the Vinsmoke family, rulers of the Germa kingdom. Not to mention, the defacto bad guys in most comics mentioned in the one piece universe.
I maintain two accounts. One in which I carefully pick what to watch to curate better recommendations, and another on which I watch whatever the fuck that I don’t want to affect my recommendations
It shouldn’t be this hard tho

i mean but people want the algo to recommend them stuff, otherwise i would just flat out recommend you use an RSS reader to get new video notifications from your subs, and watch them through mpv
if you’re not uploading
When the void screams back, calling you a slur.
I love watching a video related to politics and being greeted with the smug voice of some PragerU idiot, and then having to look at an ad underneath the video that says THE RADICAL LEFT MUST BE STOPPED. “Muh big tech is censoring conservatives” my ass.
No clue how youtubes rec algorithm got so fucked up. It used to be decent, sometimes it’d recommend cool obscure bands or whatever that I’d actually like, now it can’t even recommend the next video in a numbered series. And its prioritization is bizarre. Like, 5 years ago I watched a bunch of music videos from an artist I like and they were good I enjoyed them, but now all of a sudden, it is literally the ONLY videos it seems to want to recommend. It’s busting ass to autoplay the same three or four videos after every single thing I watch and if I’m not quick enough to get away it plays it presumably reinforcing some nightmare feedback loop. I didn’t even like autoplay at first, but I’ve grown accustomed to it for just letting things go on in the background but I guess I’m just gonna disable that and start nuking channels even if I like them. Fucking enshittification.
Pro-tip: Report the videos for violent content
If you do this enough with a script on a new account and never watch anything, you eventually get some really weird stuff (and a lot of films from the “Movies” channel but you can also report them for some reason last I checked)
You can turn off watch history and it’ll recommend videos based on your likes and dislikes. It’s still pretty bad but it’s better.
You can also configure ad blockers to block recommendations, and I wish there was a button for that in the ublock settings.

The blocktube extension lets you permanently block channels/videos/keywords, annoying that it’s necessary but it helps a lot.

I used to know the cookbook recipe for thermite. I just remember that you need a bunch of rust flakes and a blow torch.
But yeah, I frequently get video recommendations for and it’s maddening.

It’s just rust and aluminum foil iirc 💣
powdered finely enough, yeah. magnesium is generally the easiest way to light it though.
the reason why you get pushed elden ring lore videos so hard is me, sorry, i just keep clicking that garbage
Same I just wish they didn’t break the dam holding back all the other videos like those stupid ass ‘when the devs understand the players’ 30s clickbait videos showing some stupid mechanic in ToTK that was present in BOTW
Why would you need a YouTube account?
I am subscribed to like 60 different content creators whose videos I do enjoy and I like saving videos I’ve watched to playlists to show/share with other people.
I believe you can both subscribe to channels and make private/public playlists on Invidious, as long as the instance hasn’t disabled it
There’s a bunch of categories of videos I’ll only open in a private tab (music, one-off things I’m looking up, anything from a link, youtube’s own recs)
Because of this, youtube does almost mostly recommend videos with topics I’d be interested in, but the videos themselves are almost uniformly bad.
Also my private session’s recs always end up being video game clickbait, simpsons clips, best of whatever music compilations, and celbrity buzzfeed cllickbait.

Remove that video from your watch history
