I think it’s more interesting to have less rote responses, though some people totally have a ppb coming. If we reach for “ppb” or “hog out” or whatever at first sight of conflict, it’s reduced to nothing better than a verbal tic and a genre of spam. It’s better for the influence of our instance on the others to have more personalized responses (and sometimes even engaging!)
True, people are too unimaginative with their bullying. Ppb is largely played out already, we need to be on the forefront of new developments in lib bullying.

Actually I think bullying people makes them more susceptible to self crit and therefore helps socialist movements more than placid civility
Both are good because different things work for different people, and sometimes the combination works when one or the other doesn’t.
This only works in specific circumstances. It is better used online to shame bad-faith actors who are here to poison the well.
I’m telling you emphatically from experience that II really don’t think this is the case for the vast majority of people in real life most of the time. If you have gotten to a point where they say something shameful, then it can be good to put a foot down and call it out as the bullshit it is, but there’s a few effective ways to do it and many ineffective ways to do it.
