Scientists may have spotted a long-sought triplet superconductor — a material that can transmit both electricity and electron spin with zero resistance. That ability could dramatically stabilize quantum computers while slashing their energy use. Early experiments suggest the alloy NbRe behaves unlike any conventional superconductor. If verified, it could become a cornerstone of next-generation quantum and spintronic technology.

In this thread are a lot of terrible takes from people who don’t seem to understand that quantum computers are already a thing? They’re functional, and they can outperform conventional computers at limited tasks. They will probably never outperform them at everything, and that’s okay. You will probably never own one, and that’s also okay. You’ll probably never own a particle accelerator. They really should have just called them something other than computers. Scientific advancement is a good thing.

that’s exactly what someone without a scanning electron microscope would say

You joke, but if you know people at universities and they’re throwing away old equipment (literally) you can get an SEM or TEM at little cost… provided you know how to get a well worn 30+ year old electron microscope working again.

Yes, the industry should immediately invest a bazillion dollars on QC! AI is dead, dump stocks now!
