You’re not gonna hear this anywhere else but Kojima pretty much stole a ton of Death Stranding from American Cyborg: Steel Warrior. Its not the first time either. People think he’s an auteur but he’s just a typical USAphile feeding their own recycled and remixed slop back to them.

That is his real trick and at that he certainly prefigures the rise of the LLM era.

He does it lovingly though, he has always had a big interest in American action and horror cinema since he was a kid. I don’t think it reduces his auteurism, he fills his work with references and callbacks to all the classic tropes of Hollywood but still makes it something new.

It’s always been obvious that he steals shit from goofy American movies - just look at Snatcher lol

American Cyborg: Steel Warrior was also ripped off by Children of Men. Cannon was always ahead of its time.

very hard to imagine AC:SW is actually doing anything original tbh, it seems more like a vehicle to do a yo dawg I heard you like robot apocalypses cash grab

That was a joke lol, I do wonder if it was actually the other way around? Or they just coincidentally had a similar world plot of everyone being infertile.

“Gemini” just means “twins” or “a pair”, like the star sign
