Here’s the problem with the constant stream of depressing news: you start averting your eyes to stay sane. My first reaction was: “When the fuck did we start bombing Ecuador?!”

I know. The world is going to change. A lot. Like “post-WW2” a lot. The show isn’t over but it’ll never look the same.

China will be the global superpower and they’re all about that face/reputation. Taiwan is an absolute goner and corporations will be very careful about public statements. The US is gonna look like Putin’s Russia: strong men promising a return to the glory days but that’s a mathematical impossibility.

Europe will probably look normal? Laid back and still enjoying their retirement from colonialism and starting world wars.

Europe is following the us sadly. Technofeudalism. With tools past tyrants could not dream of.

But, at some point a true leader will emerge in the West and lay waste to the oligarchy, as sure that as sprimg coming.

yeah some of the scariest things to me is I feel europe, canada, austrailia, etc are like just a few steps behind the us and sometimes they are holding the line but the right is pushing like crazy.

Europe, and especially the uk, is ahead of the US in selling out the population to tech companies I am afraid. You see, the problem is the population is dumb as shit. The opposition to Tech is disunited by Design. Until we organize we are fucked and capital letters.

“The right” here being a reactionary movement to change. Tolerance led to immigration, immigration led to poor brown refugees. The US GOP destroyed the global order in a hurry and every country is circling the wagons right now.

European immigration has always been its own thing, compared to the US. It’ll get tightened down as part of the fortifying new borders. After that, “the right” will be all about a new Euro identity, distinctly separate from the US. And suddenly nationalism looks cool again to everyone because the US is run by dicks.

I’m not as pessimistic, I still think we have a 50-50 chance, but it is going to take an entirely new approach by the Democrats, and those odds aren’t nearly as good.

You say that, I think you know as I know that the Democrats will not take that new approach that is needed. They won’t tland trying to get them to do so will only lead to frustration and vitriol, earning nothing but emnity.

Literally my last choice. We have to destroy him in the primaries.

The good news is that the ones who tend to be the front runners going in, flame out fairly quick. Nobody starts out in front and stays there.

Jesus fucking christ, these people are fucking insecure idiots. They have to blow shit up to feel strong and they think bragging about it makes them look cool. They’re nothing but a bunch of fucking toddlers playing dress-up, they have no fucking clue what they’re doing.

Hegseth specifically seems to think he is playing Call of Duty or some shit.

Firstly, congratulations on coming to that awful realisation. It’s a shit place to be, and I genuinely empathise.

Secondly though, now? None of the atrocities before this point made you stop and think “Maybe we’re the baddies?”. For the sake of clarity, go and have a dig around and re-examine every single conflict the US has been involved in since the second world war.

Even just the stuff accessible to every online numpty should make you wince, now your blinkers have fallen off. Consider though, how bad the shit you don’t know must be, if the stuff you do is as bad as it is.

And by the way, I don’t appreciate being insulted for lamenting the state of my country by someone who reads like he would like to see it destroyed, along with zero empathy for the resulting hell for it’s citizens.

I think you’re reading a bit much into this comment. I think I speak for most of us when I say we’d rather see the USA liberated than destroyed. Of course, to the capitalists in charge, those are equally unthinkable.

Don’t get me wrong, I have a clue and know about much of the things you reference - for example the last 50 years of conflict with Iran was likely a direct result of our meddling in the 1950s.

It’s just that there is no longer even the slightest effort to spin. As Trump bombs Iran, he’s raving about taking Cuba as his, he’s completely unhinged.

Before him, we were no better or worse than all the other nations jostling for various levels of control. Now, we’re no better than Stalinist Russia or Nazi Germany.

        It is not the same.

to list a few so people don’t have to google… since apparently a lot of people here on lemmy are sheep who can’t even be bothered to research what is real and what is propaganda.

90% of the terrorist factions in the middle east were at some point funded or created by the CIA in order for American interests to be able to acquire oil in the middle east when their legally recognized leaders told us to go fuck ourselves.

every military action taken by both Bush and Trump has been what the Geneva Convention would call a war crime. bombing civilian targets and using religious buildings and organizations as a cover for military operations.

America is the biggest war profiteering industry in the world. Supplying the most corrupt regimes with weapons and funds while attacking anyone that doesn’t bend over backwards and ask America to fuck them harder.

Between America and Nazi Germany, healthcare has been set back several decades repeatedly. the Nazis destroyed any and all research related to transgender health… stuff that still hasn’t been recovered today. while American corporations continue to suppress any and all research into alternatives to pills that have nasty side effects. with most people believing the propaganda that alternative medicines and treatments are complete quacks due to them not being instant results.

If you pay attention to what passes the FDA regulations… it’s always the big corporations who donate money. every single treatment that works on cis people… is automatically labeled as experimental or invalid when used by transgender people. And the FDA approves of using red40 even though it’s banned in most countries for being very bad for your health. a clear example of: just because the FDA says it’s ok for consumption doesn’t make it safe to consume.

or are you claiming that Nazis didn’t destroy transgender medical studies? when there is historical evidence and confessions from Nazis that prove they did destroy transgender medical studies.

We all need to stop contributing to the US economy as much as reasonably possible.

This doesn’t mean you need to stop working if you’re an American (although if you can, go ahead) but you should try to spend as little money as possible so there’s less economic activity overall. If you need to spend money, try to do it in a way that causes dollars to leave the country rather than stay in it.

Sure puts all those executions of people on boats in the Caribbean into perspective. Harder to lie about who the target was when it’s on land.
