    The 1989 Tiananmen Square protests in China happened because the Chinese students tried to put the ideals they had been taught in school into effect. I assume it is not unusual for a movement to create the seed of a rebellion against itself, when it teaches ideals it does not follow.

      Christians also get mad when they are asked to love their neighbor. Oddly it does mean that taking Christianity seriously can often mean leaving the faith.

          Most Christian churches are founded on Peter and John more than Jesus anyways, don’t have to follow old testament law, praying in public, not giving away all your stuff and rejecting your family, etc

    Oh y’all actually did that? When I first moved to the US, I was freaked the fuck out and just sat there. And then continued to do just that every morning for the rest of my short public school career.

    I didn’t have many friends…

    I mean, the moment they make you pledge something about liberty, you know it’s phony. You are either free or you have to recite the pledge. You can’t have both liberty and mandate for the same thing.

      They don’t make you, they just socially pressure you. I stopped in high school when Germans on the internet convinced me it was uncomfortably nationalistic.

        It definitely hasn’t been a requirement for all students, though some schools and teachers may try, and/or won’t tell students they have the right to refuse to participate.

          It’s illegal to force a kid to do the pledge in the states. Well. Had been illegal. Unsure how long that’ll be until it goes before a corrupt Supreme Court.

      Or, seriously, demand better. It is amazing how Americans are willing to say “that’s not how we do it here” instead of demanding more. Quit spending your down time playing games and hiding from life on social media and protest. Join political groups. Run for office. Put some skin in the game instead of complaining from the sidelines about how it isn’t working.

        I do help, and have put my skin and reputation on the line in a deeply red district. I thought about running for Mayor and climbing the political ladder learning about my state before, but I suffered a serious life disabling traumatic brain injury. I dont think Im the best candidate for anything, but with that on top of it, I cant justify running for any office.

        I have a very public-facing job and I am very outspoken about tax issues and things hurting us and helping the wealthy ridiculously (people only believe it when it happens to them, and taxes hit our lovely local racists too). Ive completely changed some minds, and Ive definitely changed how a fair few people look at Fox entertainment news. Socially speaking, I do have skin in the game.

        I wish I could do more, but I legally cant drive, my eyes do not function properly, in-person speech is very difficult due to TBI induced stuttering and word recollection issues. I protest when I can, but I cant walk far without a cane, or at this point, a wheelchair, so its hard to go on my own.

        I do spend a lot of time playing games, though. I wish I could walk farther and didnt have the health problems I have.

    Everything is a lie.

    Humanity’s great folly will be the willingness to hold or spin the truth for sake of making the news softer to swallow. Everything is am embellished, polished turd of a lie.

    Everyone dies and goes to heaven, justice exists, the bad guys lose, true love finds a way, prayers are answered, Santa is real, social media isn’t 70% bots, War is all justified, God is real… you all roll your eyes but someone you meet tomorrow swallows 50% of this shit unironically, funnel optional.

    All bullshit, all manufactured to own, control, sedate and console you. What a monument to garbage it’ll all be in the end.

        This isn’t about being sad, this is about human society softening every blow with manure until there’s no impact to please everyone by flattening out every molehill.

        Fact: climate change is going to raise global temperatures and threaten our way of life.

        Human Response: Cover it up and pretend it isn’t real, maybe recycle, maybe, but don’t make anyone do anything or make any arragements to actually solve the issue or hold anyone accountable.

        I get we aren’t bees and the hivemind can’t all jump at once but goddamn, we aren’t even trying to not kill ourselves for the sake of feeling better about it. Hey, what’s a little lie if we all feel better?

          Yea, to each their own hysterical tantrums. But depressively demanding playing a rabbit caught in the headlights is giving up to Trump and such. People(s) ain’t like him. Only some retards on the planet still think climate change isn’t happening or isn’t affected by us. Fuck this shit, times are already changing again. Becaue people can and will make changes happen. We always do, that’s our thing.

          We’re also at a point where panicking about climate change is outdated. It is happening. It’s not like we could undo it by tomorrow. Or die tomorrow. Don’t panic, stay calm, think and prepare.

    The conservatives demanded the inclusion of the phrase “one nation under god, with liberty and justice for all”.

    It’s not “Liberty and justice for all” instead it is “Liberty and justice for … All in one nation under God.” Conservatives do not take that to refer to those they consider subhumans. Only the chosen people qualify.

      Which is also historically consistent with the a idea that it’s “self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”, only applies to white protestant men.
