Literally hell. We can put the reeducatable bourgeoisie to work after the revolution breaking up and deconstructing streets to convert into denser living with actual green space. They get dropped off in a parking lot, handed a pick axe, and 8 hours to gather XYZ pounds of asphalt and cement material as a quota. pika-pickaxe

Wouldn’t it be cathartic to tear up these scars on the earth and then plant gardens and parks? I’d maybe get into it too. That’s basically exercise right?

Fucking Texas is one of the worst states, consistently, no matter what the criteria or year. They are committed to being a stand out terrible shithead state no matter the state of the rest of the states.

In an airplane crash and you’re plummeting to your doom and the drunken lout seated behind you is still kicking your seat? That’s probably a Texan, fulfilling their commitment to being the worst of whatever’s at hand.

Meanwhile in Beijing, urban reforestation has increased tree cover rate from 38% in 2012 to 45% in 2025. An estimated half the city has some sort of green coverage now, and rising.

Holy shit I used to live right at this intersection. I know exactly where this is. It’s in West Plano off the Dallas North Tollway and Parker Rd. This was like 10 years ago now, but still weird to see it pop up like this.

The Cinemark in the middle is what immediately stood out, which got me to look closer at the Eatzi’s at the bottom that I used to get food from quite a bit. From there everything else was easy to recognize. This is definitely that intersection. It’s the DNT as the border on the left, Parker (Rd?) as the bottom, and Parkwood Ave as the right-side street. There’s even more parking lot going south as there’s a Tom Thumb on the other side of the street to the south and a Target a bit more south of that. Just huge swaths of pavement all through that area.

I don’t think you can find a single place in Europe that looks anywhere close to this mess. Even in just a tiny localised area. Maybe a giant stadium or super Ikea car park?

        Dachau

Pretty much the closest thing I could recreate but it’s absolutely not a fair picture of Dachau because this is the absolute worst example, industrial yard right next to the train station. And it’s still not as bad.

You are in Munich. You need to look for small industrial cities that usually surround the larger cities to strike gold.

Dallas has some nicer spots as well. In Europe they just usually don’t put the ugliest parts in the city centers. A lot of American cities feel like they started as a gas station and grew from there.

You’re right, i wasn’t in Dachau, it gave me the wrong place, that’s more like it.

Again it’s a totally unfair comparison though because it’s an ultra industrial area. Basically nothing but factories and cargo.
