I would guess in the USian nation, tow trucks are mainly used to enforce the capital interests of landlords/parking lot owners, so in that case, sure. In european cities, I’m very grateful there’s somebody hauling away the steel skeletons of uncaring car drivers who seem to think that in the middle of a bike lane or in an intersection is a good place to leave their personal tank until they pick it up later.
At least in the US, tow truck drivers thrive off terrorizing and extorting the working class. They post videos online bragging about how quickly they can tow a car from underneath someone. I’m talking, swiping a car in under 10 seconds. It could be someone driving a shitbox who tried to sneak a few unpaid minutes in a metered parking spot while they pick up their clothes from the laundromat. Or they’re picking up medicine for their elderly parent, from the only pharmacy in the poor and neglected part of town. The city council has completely neglected action against tyrannical property owners who have made all parking prohibitively expensive, say $5 for the first 30 minutes, in the most destitute districts. It’s not like Europe where walking is usually a possibility. If you can’t park near your destination, you are excluded from it. The middle and upper classes, on the other hand, can afford to pay the parking; or, they don’t even need parking at all because they own laundry machines in their big houses with large, dedicated laundry rooms.
