Typical conservatives, they don’t care about bad things happening to other people but the second it impacts their own lives, now suddenly it’s unconscionable.
They only turn when they are personally affected in a big way.
Plenty still haven’t felt that yet.
Inflation rising rapidly is starting to affect them but for most their racism is still winning out
There is nothing more powerful than hatred. Not even dwindling monies.
Only took him 10 years to figure it out
Posts like this were popular when Trump lost, but look at where we are now. His supporters will hop right back on again and again.
I bet that if he watches FOX News for a few hours a day, he’ll come back to understanding all his personal hardship is necessary so that Trump can protect him from the libs, the worst of the worst immigrants and, to quote Darlene Graham Nordone, Boys in girls’ sports.
Very few people voted for Trump to bring the cost of eggs down. They voted for Trump for permission to do that sweet, sweet racism.
Same old story. Only once they are personally impacted, then they give a shit.
Thats true to varying extents for virtually everyone.
When you’re broke and can’t afford to take a week off of work because it could mean ending up homeless you’re a lot less likely to go spend a lot of time protesting an innocent stranger being shot dead in the street than if that innocent person had been your brother.
Cool story bro. I have family in farm country and can drum up a dozen farmers/ranchers right the fuck now who pray before they eat and vociferously defend everything this administration is doing to defend against the libs. By right now I mean RIGHT NOW, AFTER alllllll of the pedo shit and the losing the made up war, tariffs, all of it. Does. Not. Matter.
They either won’t or can’t give up the sunk cost
It’s pretty sad it’s essentially a cult now with all the same tactics. Leaving the cult means leaving behind fox news and conservative media which tells you no, you are smarter than them, you get it. Trump is saving you and America. I can’t even blame most of them because it’s emotionally stunted immature lonely people, it’s just sad.
“He doesn’t care about ranchers” - yeah, something happened there. He was allllll fine with fuck the immigrants, fuck the brown people, fuck everyone else, but finally Trump did something that hurt his personal little feefees and now he’s upset and surprised that Trump would do whatever it was, but he’ll get over it and vote for him or whoever he annoints or whoever the Republicans put out there.
Fuck these people. I gave excuses to these fuckers for decades and I’m out of excuses for them. They are traitors to our democracy and voted in fascism time and time again. No sympathy for traitors. They have collectively killed millions of Americans, and at least millions of others around the world if not hundreds of millions by their actions.
The issue is that their empathy, like most people’s in history, extends to their immediate circle and no further. Once he became affected, he realized Trump doesnt care. Everything else was a victory in the name of GuyWhoHasntWrongedHimSpecifically because He said so
It’s so interesting that they can spend so much time thinking about people not in their circle, but also have no empathy for those people despite being hyper aware of them
They watch unironically 10+ hours a day for 20+ years propaganda telling them these people are evil and deserve no sympathy, so I guess it’s not that surprising.
Honestly I don’t think it’s relevant how shitty a person Joebob McCowfucker is. It’s still good that he’s not supporting trump any more. Shitheads can’t do as much damage when they aren’t banding together.
He’ll support the next one. That’s a problem.
Only because it affects him directly
The older I get, the more it becomes apparent that the primary political distinction between people is how many degrees of separation from themselves they care about people. The more you care about people barely connected to you at all, the more progressive you are. The more your scope of concern for people is limited to people in your immediately sphere, the more conservative you are.
It is not always selfishness that sways conservatives. They can care genuinely and deeply for their family, friends, colleagues, and community. But that is typically as far as that scope of concern goes. They can take on more progressive political positions or make limited exceptions when their lifelong regressive politics suddenly negatively affects themselves or those close to them. Their kid comes out as trans, their work friend is black, their community is being spoiled by a corporation, and suddenly they are a progressive ally on those things alone. But what they care about will still be limited to those in their bubble. They will not care that their politics has the same effect on someone else’s family until it happens to their’s. It’s a genuine character flaw. They are incapable of general altruism.
Game theory and Contractualist ethical theories should be compulsorily taught in high school. Then you’re not too dependent on empathy or caring.
Unfortunately, that it’s such a widespread characteristic means society can only maintain progressive institutions by figuring out a way to protect them from being considered “enemy other” by people like that. There are selfish reasons to support safety nets - treating infectious diseases in poor communities prevents transmission to wealthier communities, for example - but those reasons haven’t been sold in a way to gain traction with today’s conservatives.
in-groups and out-groups
There are 2 types of people, those who think might makes right and those who think consent makes right. The might-makes-right type form rigid hiearchies and well defined in-groups and the group leaders are always working to shrink the group and demonstrate status.
Right but I think that that particular strategy just plays on that character flaw. Consevatives care about very few poeple, and if you can manipulate who those poeple are that they care about, and concentrate the types of people they care about as a group, you can control WHAT they care about.
Progressives are also susceptible to in-group/out-group manipulation too. But our out-groups are those who oppress or disenfranchise others. So you would manipulate us by convincing us that that is happening when it isn’t, or isn’t happening when it is. Sound like a familiar argument?
Observed the same, mostly agree. Many hold bigoted “one of the good ones” attitude, never an ally for people outside their circle.
Liberals will agree with this but still reject communism.
Plus goldfish memory ensures it won’t stick
Well yes, but at this point the percentage of people he has not impacted directly is tiny. So indeed losing the room.
He’s giving the room away because he no longer needs it. He’s entrenched and he’s got his gestapo.
No he’ll vote for trump again if he could. Rural people are brain dead
In the name of probably quite a few rural people: fuck you
As a different rural person, you completely miss the point. I agree with them, fuck rural people.
Am rural, not brain dead enough to vote right wing
I felt when it happened to me… An entire political party is just untreated psychopaths without any empathy.
He rapes children, that’s where every “debate” with a trump supporter begins and ends with me lol. Fuck beef prices or foreign policy, trump belongs in a cage where he can no longer hurt children, period.
The guy would probably vote for trump again if given the opportunity
“I hate Trump, but it’s better than the Demon rats!”
Or at best, just not vote.
Listen, I’ll take disengagement at this point (from former maga).
Just don’t fall for inevitable voter fraud that comes after.
This should be encouraged. It is a useful tactic, and you can tell this because it’s the tactic they use on us. You see all the things about not voting for a Democrat? Those aren’t people abstaining from voting for moral reasons (at least originally, but it is spread by people who buy the message). It’s spread because it keeps people from voting who would solidly be voting Democrat.
He’s worse than that: Trump doesn’t give a damn about anyone who isn’t Trump.
What do you mean? He cares deeply for those people who give him lots of money 🤡
But only while they’re giving him money.
The second he has the money, he no longer cares.
And only when they give him money.
anyone can be wrong, anyone can be fooled by false promises by sleazy politicians. but the fact that it takes people so long to realize this is bewildering. i mean, it’s his second term. what big accomplishments from his first term made him vote for trump again?
I think the issue is a lot of my feller Americans are really fucking stupid. And that’s saying a lot coming from a 15 year IV drug user. 6 years sober. But still if I seem to be smarter then most Americans we seriously have an issue wrong with our society. My brain and body are fried.
Give yourself credit, my friend
Most people couldn’t even fight the battle you won
Browsing around different forums, I have read some of what they think, and they legitimately believe that he as accomplished a lot by “protecting the culture” and deporting immigrants. But there’s a lot of complaining about everything else and general dissatisfaction from what I can tell.
Basically they are racists and they are glad about the racist things he’s accomplished.
Well you see the other person was a woman and they are emotionally unstable. Not like the manly Trump.
Harris wouldn’t allow beef prices to continue to rise either, so it’s not like ranchers had an alternative.
Couldn’t, shouldn’t, wouldn’t, nobody is talking about a washed up former prosecutors from 2024. We’re so far removed from then that this current fuckery could have been avoided or diverted a thousand different ways a thousand different times.
The real question is for OPs Rancher and is who will you vote for next time? I bet we all know the answer.
Vance is different than Trump and understands a rancher’s needs. When he was a good Christian child growing up in the heartland he would dream about working on a ranch. Vance ain’t afraid of a good fight either and he ain’t woke.
He knows that brown people can do valuable work because he married one. Vance just gets it and unlike Trump he is in it for the people. Vote your troubles away, vote Vance today!
I’m going to vote for the party that isn’t an open hypocrite. How can you criticize the opposition for the exact same thing your party would do?
“My party” would put a whole bunch of people against a wall comrade.
As an anarchist, this is pretty triggering to see.
The Libs got stuck.
