Yes, just saw a game and splurged for premium seating it was so fun. I watch football all weekend every weekend during season. I gamble on it, also watch a lot of baseball it’s a big part of my life
I enjoy the experience of watching a game live. If you’ve never been to live professional sporting event in the states, the stadiums/arenas work really hard to make sure you’re entertained between the action on the field/court/rink. It’s fun once or twice a year, but I would never pay those prices even for pro.
I also like watching live sports on TV. That’s not all I like and I’m not a big SPORTS! guy, but I do enjoy watching my teams and I get excited for opening day in March and the first game of the regular season in September. I dont really follow college sports, and I gave up on the NBA a decade ago, and hockey doesn’t get enough OTA coverage for me to really follow it. My favorite is MLB. NFL is cool after all the Nationalism and Propaganda is over (I skip halftime shows too).
I’ve done lots of drugs in my life. There’s a time and place for those (college). I’m an adult now, so I don’t fuck around with much other than some beers here and there. Drugs have a way of becoming not a special activity and just a habit that needs feeding, at least for me and many others I’ve known (some who refuse to admit it).
The live sporting events that I’ve enjoyed most were when I volunteered to work at them, but they weren’t in stadiums(skiing, running, mountain biking). I don’t drink anymore, but getting stoned and watching nature documentaries has not gotten old, or taking some shrooms and going for a trail run is really fun.
Glad you still enjoy those things. I won’t stop you or try to take it away from you.
I really like minor league ball games – less expensive but still good ball games. And a real americana feel to me.

That’s actually changed. They can pay college athletes now. UT’s quarterback gets over 5 million a year because of his family name (he’s actually a mediocre quarterback according to the numbers).

I have USA coworkers. There’s a mix of the above types, amongst a few older guys that have aged out of the propaganda and are like “Dude American is not #1, we are #1 at being behind the times on major things that define a civilized country”.
And that interaction amongst them is interesting to watch with some popcorn :)
I’m happy for anyone who really enjoys sports or has something else in their life that brings them great joy. However, I personally can’t imagine paying these kinds of prices to watch any event.

I’ve never understood how people can shell out that much for tickets to anything. Sit in uncomfortable seats for a couple hours then go home - what the hell is the attraction??
There are enough people for whom $1000 is like $20 for you to fill stadiums.
It’s a good gauge of changes in income inequality, because the supply is inelastic - the stadiums can’t expand to hold more people, but ticket prices can change according to what the top 1% are willing to pay.
I’m glad my favorite bands sell tickets in the $20-50 range. Though I almost always get a T-shirt or something, and maybe a drink, the total night out is under $200. I just couldn’t justify spending more than that.
Festival style concerts. I’m not going to as many these days, and they were much cheaper back in my day, but I’d certainly pay a hundred bucks for a day or two’s worth of music hanging out with people and so forth.

As someone who’s not into sports at all, I’d not pay over $20, even that feels a lot. I do love music live shows and festivals but I’d not pay $100 for anything less than a 3 day festival with lots of good bands.

There is no sport, pro, college or otherwise that is worth that price to watch a game.
College football is generally only behind the NFL on ratings. This was also in Texas, where some highschool teams get attendance numbers that are comparable to pro baseball.
I live in Indiana. One of our “bragging rights” is that ten of the top twelve largest high school basketball arenas are here. The largest can sit about 8,500.
While I’m having trouble finding a definitive nationwide list, the tenth largest high school football stadium in Texas can fit nearly double that.

I knows it’s not apples to apples, but my football (soccer) team were charging £40 for the first home game of the season and I just refuse to pay that much. £30 for me is the max I’d pay and that’s only for the “big” games like local derbies
Just so people are aware, these prices are all on the resale market literally the day before this game, which was one of the most anticipated games in the history of Texas football. The original ticket prices are nowhere near this high. The entire season sold out before the season even started, but you can still buy tickets to several future games in the $200-$300 range

This is per seat. And you’ll see similar prices for the Game if both Michigan and OSU are top 5 when it happens, like this game was.

UT’s stadium upgrades were paid for through ticket sales and donations. It was originally built in 1924, but has been expanded many times since, and is now the 9th largest stadium in the world by capacity. It also houses a ton of UT athletics in its interior spaces, like training and practice facilities for many sports, as well as academic kinesiology

A baseball field here was repaired by taxpayer dollars under the guise that it will be paid for by FEMA; then they don’t know when that payment will happen, only a portion will be paid compared to the final cost. Oh yeah and the lame baseball team is going to another city. Cool, not that I care since I only went to one game in 20 years. And there’s a shortage in city funds to fix infrastructure. Go figure
Dont even get me started. I use an example of how the Eden Project cost half of what my local arena cost when providing a guest lecture at my university. Eden took an old mine and converted it into a facility that educates and acts as venue and has brought in 1.5 Bn quid to the economy since it opened in 2001.
I remeber seeing this or another stadium in texas being build, i think by a private asshole. The stadium was almost finished. They talked how they could close the roof and climate the whole fucking thing, in the texas heat. I almost threw up.

College ball parking spots going for $2500. Mind boggling. They could have built a light rail and had no parking at the stadium, but that would be unAmerican.
EDIT: Oh, I guess these are ticket prices that include a parking spot for one game? That’s even more insane. I thought it was season pass parking spots, like people rent parking spots in NYC.
I don’t know where you are getting parking spots from. From looking at the place on google maps, it doesn’t look like they have anywhere near enough parking to fill that stadium up. That said, from some quick searching, tickets to random games seem to be in the neighborhood of $200, not $2000 - I wonder if this is some other even that just happened to be at their stadium? Even season tickets don’t appear to be this much money.
Regardless, I doubt the price includes anything to do with parking.

How many people in the US can afford to pay $10,000 per year on entertainment? Maybe anyone who makes more than $200k per year? That might be 5% of the population, or about 17 million Americans. Not all of them will be fans of college football, much less one of the two specific teams playing, but it’s still not that hard to find a few tens of thousands of humans with lots of disposable income and the means to make their way to a specific game.
Over 100,000 people attended this game, and very, very few of them paid these scalped prices at the last minute. This is not an accurate reflection of the original cost of these tickets
That’s true, too. Also, for a game like this, pretty much all season ticket holders want to go to the game, so they’re less likely to give up the tickets on secondary market sales.
Still, for this particular program, in this particular season, the season ticket holders need to have been paying at least $3000/season, if not more, for pretty much the last 5-10 years (including some mediocre seasons), in order to even get the tickets shown on the original image. So pretty much anyone sitting at the game either spent $1000+ for a single ticket or spent thousands for multiple tickets.
Many UT alum build $3000/season into their regular expenses. It’s a totally manageable expense for lots of professionals, especially after their careers have progressed. It’s hard to overstate how popular football is at the University of Texas, and it’s also a top-tier research university with hundreds of thousands of graduates who are doing really well for themselves
I agree, and why I was saying that plenty of people are willingly paying thousands of dollars per year for live events, whether sports, concerts, theatre, standup comedy, etc.
The specific events might be more or less likely to attract a ton of secondary ticket buyers at very high prices, but for something like this, where the season ticket waitlist is years long, there are plenty of people willingly buying tickets to the less competitive games to get a chance at a face value ticket to these types of top 5 matchups.

I don’t go to these type of events. Can anyone explain me if there is an actual difference between a 1k, 3k or 7k ticket which all seem to be in a similar non centralized area.

I don’t see any $7K tickets, but generally speaking, the closer to the field and the closer to the 50 yard line, the more expensive the seat. The exception is that narrow row between the lower and upper decks, which are suites where you have air conditioning, comfortable seats, and food/drink service.
